How would you fix our countries immigration problem?
Answer:
How would I fix our countries immigration problem?
First the people that are here illegally now. I would have a pyramid type system where if you have been here 5 years or more then you can apply for everything in the normal time period as anyone else, and have to pay a large fine. If you have been here from 2-4 years, then you can apply for the work permit, pay a hefty fine, then after a long period you can apply for resident alien card, then another longer period for citizenship. If you have been here less than 2 years then you are given a 6 month - 1 year time period to get everything in order, finishing working and saving money then you have to go back. All people that are here need to have a background check done, need to have paid their taxes, and need to be able to speak some english, and still taking classes if they don't speak it well.
At the end of the time period (say 18 months after the plan is announced) all businesses - including the ones that pay 1099's - will have a system to check papers and ID that will be national - in place and that way if you are here illegally there will be no type of work for you.
As for the border, I don't think a wall is going to work. What will happen is that the coyotes will find more difficult, more dangerous paths to come in, and it will cost alot more money and lives for them to come in. Yes the borders (BOTH OF THEM) need to be secured, as far as how, I am not sure yet.
Enforcement of all immigration laws.
Build a gigantic wall on the southern border with lots of barbed wire. We should take a lesson from the Romans when they built Hadrians wall across Scotland. When the Romans built the Hadrians wall across Scotland that effectively closed down the nothern frontier to the Scots for several centuries. How would you build it? There are plenty of people in our jails and prisons with nothing to do.There are 2 million Americans who are in some type of custody or probation. These people will be given the chance to redeem themselves through working on the biggest project of its type in history. Currently most people in custody, sit around doing or planning some illicit activity ,playing Scrabble, playing cards all day or at the weight room. This would keep them very occupied and focus at the task at hand instead of having them wandering around the jail yard shanking each other for cigarettes. This will also give them some skills too when they get out. After the wall is 100 percent completed, they will have their sentences commuted to time served and set free. And give jail time to employers who hire illegal immigrants.
Prosecute anyone who hires illegals, and deport everyone who's here illegally.
Put American troops on the border so that nobody can get through.
Cut off all money going to Mexico from the USA, whether it's foreign aid or invaders sending money back home.
Problem solved...
JMB
Stop hiring them and start arresting and jailing those that do!
But Republicans never think of that, do they?
The problem begins in Mexico, and that's where the solution must begin. The wealth redistribution system in Mexico is totally broken. They need to implement a progressive "wealth and property tax." It has to be enough to fund public spending, but not enough to cause their wealthiest citizens to flee to other countries with their money. The funds thus raised would be used to implement a sort of New Dealism publics works spending -- build up infrastructure -- and small loans to entrepreneurs willing to start businesses in the new towns thus built and thus connected by the new roads etc.
With greater economic opportunity available in Mexico, it might be that fewer will want to leave Mexico to look for employment elsewhere.
Enforce our current laws
deporting is out of the question, it just adds fuel to the fire.
After the third time they are caught jail time should be mandatory. I am so tired of hearing the crocodile's tears of how could you put these illegals in jail for only wanting to feed their families. If I break the law and then asked to be let off because I just wanted to feed my family, I would be laughed right out of the court room.
1st... I would enforce our "current" immigration laws.
2nd... I would add a law of "No more anchor babies automatically becoming citizens"! (because this is abusing our medical system & causing hospitals to close, due to free medical benefits for illegals who give birth to babies here in the U.S. without helping with the cost) If there are no anchor babies made to be citizens, they won't qualify for the free benefits that they come here for in the 1st place. It's become a scam to muscle American citizens out of money!
3rd... Heavy, heavy, heavy fines for anyone hiring illegals
4th... Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard our borders!
I think that the only fair way to go is to:
(1) Enforce immigration laws.
(2) Make legal immigration easier.
As it stands, LEGAL immigration is really hard. Much as I sympathise with Mexican citizens who see no real option other than illegal immigration into the US ... I don't think basing a system on illegal immigration (I hear again and again about how the country's economy, especially from a farming point of view, depends on illegal immigrants, and I think that's ridiculous) is workable.
As a legal immigrant myself, I find the politically correct "undocumented immigrant" term infuriating. "Illegal alien" is not a bad word. It's factual. Make it easier for people to do things legally. Don't try to make illegal immigration ok.
I don't think this country has an immigration problem.
I think immigrants have a problem because this country's immigration laws/policies are excessively difficult to work with.
Huge concrete and "un-cuttable" fencing at least 25' high and topped with barb-wire and cameras ! It would cost a lot to begin with but would save vast amounts of money that illegals take from this country in medical expenses, food, and education expenses for their illegal children who crowd our schools, lower our education scale for all students and they don't pay a cent for any of this and dozens of other expenses they cost the American Citizens !!!
I think Gary J has a point. There are already immigration laws that would have prevented the situation from getting out of hand, IF they had been enforced. Since that is not the case, I think that a Temporary Guest Worker Program would be the fastest, easiest way to make this problem "go away". Anyone who is here illegally will want to take advantage of this program, so, we would know exactly who is here. If they say they just come to work, then they work for a few years, then they leave. If it is someone who can be of a great service to the USA, then they can be considered for citizenship.
that's a tough one since our government has decided to drag it's feet on this one for the last 50 years or so. My solution or your solution might make good reading but it won't solve anything. What I have been doing is writing and calling my reps in my state (Ca.) and the white house along with about 500 thousand irate American citizens (and still counting) in the last few days telling them that the bill they are currently trying to shove down our throats is a disaster waiting to happen for many reasons. But you didn't ask about that. First off we need to secure our borders! 2nd every illegal caught needs to be given a canteen and a rifle and sent to Iraq. They should be paid a soliers wage and taxed on it. For every illegal we send over we bring one American solier home give them some r& r and then put them on the borders. Every illigal that completes a tour of Iraq should be granted citizenship and made clear that we appreciate their serving and now it's time to go find a job. No special treatment or government handouts! We spend billions already on taking care of illegals don't tell me we can't use that money to locate them and either deport them or send them to the Middle East. Of course this is just a pipe dream and won't ever happen. Another thing we can do is adopt the immigration laws that Mexico uses they are some of the toughest there is. And seem to work well because they enforce them!
The best plan involves tightening the security of the borders, both with Mexico and Canada. I'm not necessarily against amnesty, but it's bad parenting. It's letting someone get away with breaking the law. It doesn't set a good precedent. There are no easy answers, except to tighten security. This would probably involve building a secure fence/ wall of some sort, with more border patrol. It's interesting that Mexico has a very secure border with Guatemala, including tanks, armed guards etc., but they don't seem to worry about Americans slipping into their country. Why do you think that is?
Well first off I think in order to stop immigration you have to give them a reason to stay! Second our nations leaders need to think outside the box a little. First off instead of spending all our money on border patrol and walls I think we should focus on building a stronger relationship with Mexico. Take some of that money and help them improve there infrastructure and develope rail systems. Help them develope a sound public education system. Provide them with a model of our economic system. Maybe our political leaders could get off there high horse and actually establish good foreign relations with Mexico's political leaders and help mentor them in the development of these programs. Also set a federal minimum wage in Mexico. You start doing these things trade beomes more efficent with the new rail system and road infrastructure. the mexican children and future leaders become better educated. The increased trade that would surely follow with the U.S. would strengthen the economy and increase the value of the peso, thus improving the quality of life in Mexico and giving them a reason to want to stay!
The thing is that you should enforce the law, when the fanatics, lunatics, that blew off the World Trade Center did what they did, that's when you should enforce it, and you americans didn't do it, it was easy for them to get passports, pilot licence, and every piece of I.D. THAT THEY GOT , how?: and you only want to enforce the law with the inmigrants, the inmigrants that really are helping this economy, or you have any doubts about it? have you ever see any mexican crossing the border with the intention to kill anybody? enforce the law with the real people that always trying to hurt the people that lives in america, I'm DOMINICAN, and I have never had a thought of killing anybody, be real and feel more love for humanity.
1- Enforce the laws we already have.
A-Prosecute those who hire people who are not here legally
B-Stopping looking the other way when the H-1b imigartion status is abused. Do not let people in as if they have som special skill just because they have a dgree in computer science.
C-return those who are here illegally
2-Invest in foreign economies. If Mexico is prospuours ... well? We do't see alot of people sneaking across from Canada
To reward illegal immigrants who have broken the law with a path to citizenship is absolutely wrong. However, I do understand that America does need legal immigrants to fill some jobs. My fix goes like this... 1st, secure our borders to cut off any more illegal immigrants from entering the USA. 2ND, design a system that lets employers check on a workers legal status. 3rd, put out a news release that warns all employers in America that if they are caught hiring illegal immigrants after a certain date (no more than 2 months away), they will be fined heavily, and if they are repeat offenders, they will be put out of business. 4Th, set up a new guest worker program, that gives workers a limited time to work in America. After returning home, they could apply again. If they show to be good law abiding and hard working citizens, give them a path to citizenship after 10 years or so. As far as all the illegals now in the country, they will leave once the jobs are cut off. If they are caught staying, put them on a work farm that is guarded like a prison. After so long, give them the chance to deport themselves again. That is my plan.
Go to grassfire (dot) org/42/petition.asp and follow a link at the top left corner for petitions. Join the "Secure Our Borders" petition. Voice your opinion against rewarding illegals for breaking the law. Send everyone you know to this petition. I would put the exact link to the site here, but yahoo is blocking that.
The idea of rewarding illegals who broke the law with a path to citizenship is ridiculous. Our government is a worthless disgrace.
Clarify the law and make sure everyone understands that:
You are NOT a U.S. Citizen just because you were born in the U.S. Your parents must also be U.S. citizens or LEGAL residents of the U.S., and anyone ELSE is ILLEGAL.
No exception!
Stop catering to them:
1. All signs and policies in English only. No bilingual signs.
2. No benefits: includes but not limited to hospital care, child care, WIC, Link, food stamps, education, subsidized housing.
3. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO VOTE. IN CHICAGO THEY ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE. (This is why the politicians cater to them.)
Penalize all law breakers: that includes the individuals, the companies that hire them and those that rent or sale to them.
Most illegal immigrants reside in clusters with other illegals and most are employed by the same companies.
1a. Federal agents can enter companies and request document ion of all employees. No one is allowed to leave until they have proven they are U.S. Citizens or legal residents.
All those that cannot, will be detained and deported (along with their entire family). If the Feds check all the documentation submitted by these people they can easily see who is and who isn't illegal.
1b.All companies should check all employees’ documentation.
1c. All federal agencies should cooperate with each other.
1d. Employers should have easy assess to a Federal site that can easily determine it a Social Security number is fraudulent or if it shows the SS number is being used illegally. This information is readily available. The Social Security department has the information already.
2. Raid neighborhoods with large immigrant population. Seal off the area and check every single person residing in each and every building. (The Americans rounded up Americans of Japanese ancestry and in put them in concentration camps 60 years ago. The Japanese were American citizens or legal residents.) Why can they not round up all the illegals now?
3. Deport all illegals currently in prison to a prison in their country. Why should American tax payers support these illegal prisoners?
4. Illegals nor their children should be allowed to attend schools in the U.S., receive medical or hospital care regardless of circumstance. No exceptions. If they cannot attend school, or work, or receive free benefits or receive any medical care they will leave on their own.
Thoroughly check documentation before employing, allowing to enroll in school, rent or purchase home, receive hospital or medical care.
Allow those that have purchased their home to sell them, if they remain 90 days after the new law has taken effect seize their property. If companies are found to still be employing illegals, severely fine them. If the companies are guilty of a second offense seize their property.
pack all the mexicans and latinos illegally here on cattle cars on trains and dump them into the rio grande, or in the desert.
