I was there for 5 years, granted my visa had expired by 3 days,
Unless she applied for overstay or citizenship she will be fine.
I got 5 month on prison in Dallas....Lou sterit prison and deported back to Birmingham England by the INS.
So if she doesn’t have a visa and she is self sufficient, even though her family is there my guess is deportation.
My best advise if she doesn’t have a visa is to apply for one, she stands a better chance of staying rather than getting caught.
I was mowing the lawn at the time and a Dallas cop drove by, he recognized my accent. I was in prison with Columbians Brazilians Mexicans. Many from south America, only positive thing was I’m fluent in Spanish.
irrespective of family or self-sufficiency or the length of time stayed, if the visa is up, shes looking at free plane ride home. this happened to a mte of mine who had been in the usa for 10 years

ya she is illegal and needs to go back! self sufficient or not she need her green card before anything!
She would not be Illegal, if she kept up on the INS paperwork.
All would be fine.
Hopefully deportation & a life long ban from our country...but that way too logical for our government!

First of all, every normal human being I know understands the horrible plight of poverty. We grew up seeing the photos of the Great Depression – starving moms in rags, kids with deep-set shadowed eyes. Mexico and the U.S. were BOTH poor then.
But we (by “we” I mean my astonishingly hard-working parents, whose diligence has been my envy for 4 decades) … we worked our people to wrinkled wretches AND fought three major powers (WWII) and never gave up. Now OUR economy is good. But we EARNED it.
Why our government is selling us out is perhaps the most perplexing juxtaposition of cheap comedy onto earned-nobility most of us will ever experience.

let her see an immigration attorney immediately - she should be able to claim under family status or professonal status depending on what you mean by self sufficient, and her education qualifications. ignore the ignorant comments here from ppl whining about their tax payers money over a contributing member of society being deported cos her paperwork is sketchy, when they are happy to spend $65 000 a year keeping a rapist or murderer in luxury in prison, just because that person is a "legal us citizen". good luck.
She must go back to make it legal no way arround that regardless f family or not.if she is caught she is looking for a one way ticket back to where she comes from.also she will face a penalty that is with or without jail she will also be banned from entering america for around 5 years or more.
