Canadian student/citizen looking to work in US for rest of summer?

I'm currently living in Los Angeles for the last 2 months of summer and looking to get a job for a little money on the side before I go back to school. I am a Canadian citizen and I dont really know the procedure on how I would approach getting a job or receiving a visa for the rest of summer. I have talked to US customs and they said I could simply recieve a visa at the border if I have a job offer ready. On the other hand, every employment agency I talk to says I need a job eligibility card to be able to even apply for a job. I feel like I'm getting run in circles. Any ideas, experience or knowledge would be greatly appreciated on this matter, I'm in dire need.

Answer:
