Anchor Babies?
Canada recinded this outdated law, and so has nearly all of the worlds countries! Yet the U.S. with it's bleeding heart still allows it! I gave birth to my son in Las Cruces New Mexico 16 yrs ago. The girl in the bed next to mine was an Illegal from Mexico, she jumped the border in Elpaso a couple of days before she was ready to pop. Went to the hospitals emergancy room when she went into labor. The nurses were giving her all the info she needed to recieve housing, food stamps, W.I.C. and medical for the baby. The nurses told me most of these girls come here,have the baby and then go back over.. show up once or twice a month to collect their benifits.. and then take it all back to Mexico.. whats wrong with this Picture!! Recind the law!

As for the anchor baby situation, this NEEDS to be repealed STAT! The women from Mexico come here pregnant with that sole purpose of mind to have their baby on our soil. To me, that is FRAUD. Their intention is clear...to defraud the US govt of financial assistance.

Its a constitutional law, it isn't something that can merely be recinded. It would take a constitutional amendment, and personally, I do not feel strongly enough about immigration to think that this is something worth doing.
I agree that the amendment should be done away with. It IS outdated and irrelevant to todays life and people are taking advantage of the amendment.

I agree. The only way a child born in the US should be a citizen is if his parents were in the country legally at the time. For example had a green card. That would be fine with me. But these women are stealing out tax dollars and nothing is being doing. We need to let them pop their kid out, and arrest them, and deport them.
It's not a law - it's a distortion of the 14th bleeding heart amendment. It's not just Mexico, I hear most third world countries have special travel tours for expectant mothers. Congress would never do anything that might make the country better and citizens safer.
That's what makes America great the diverse culture, if they are to recind the law they need to date it back to the 1900's when all those that came through Ellis Island will call another country home.
the 14th amendment was regarding slavery, not the kids of illegal alien criminals! This amendment should be interpreted as it was intended!
It's in The Constitution.. Get rid of food stamps and welfare for all peoples; if They can't feed themselves let them die no matter what race. And the 14th amendment is so explicit you can't misinterpret it. It says ALL person it dosent say African American only need Apply
It is based on the current interpretation of the 14th amendment to the Constitution.
Here is the section we are talking about: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
I agree with you, I think illegals have broken the laws and their children should not be 'rewarded' with citizenship.
It will require an amendment to the Constitution to change the above sentence, or a Supreme Court reinterpretation banning children born to illegals from having citizenship, probably based on the line "subject to the jurisdiction thereof"
If the government yo-yo's won't rescind or correct the law, maybe we should keep all the babies born here, raise them American being they are citizens and make sure the umbilical cord is cut by deporting the parents giving them no rights to the baby and no social services for themselves. We'll take care of the babies!
Yes the amendment needs to be changed. Its original intention was to guarantee that freed slaves, and their children would not be denied citizenship. Illegals are just being allowed to exploit it.
I agree, recind this crazy law. I dont want to break up families I hope when illegals get deported they take their children with them.

Really you are right. Too many hard working Americans paying taxes cannot afford insurance, but we hand out free medical and government assistance to anybody here illegally.

Are you saying that we should ignore what our Constitution say, about children being born in the USA and being USA citizens! Your crazy! Even though their parents are illegal, that doesn't mean that the children should be to! Every USA citizen should be treated the same!
You are right, that is an outdated law that should have been gone a long time ago.
Originally, it was meant to be so that is would simply be easier for the immigrants who have children to not have to return to their home country to get the papers and whatever for the child.
The government back then was not counting on this law being used for illegals. The government expected laws to be followed and illegals were simply not tolerated back then. There were VERY strict immigration laws back then and if the illegals think the laws are tough now, they should study history on immigration.
There were bans on certain country's people to enter during long time spans. A person coming here had to have references, funds available to build a home for themselves and their family. The people had to prove their education and skills and had to prove that they could support their family. They had to also prove they were healthy and not alcoholics.
It actually should be this same way now.
