International student change status due to marriage?

Can anyone tell me the process of getting an international student's status changed due to marriage to an American? And what is this new "status" referred to as?

Answer:
Your wife must file an I-130 petition for you, asking for immigrant status. Since you are in the US, she can file an I-485 request to adjust status concurrently. That will give you a conditional green card. Here is more on the two forms:

You must apply for a Visa due to your marriage to an American. Until the Visa change is approved, you are still considered an International student. Also, if the label is not coming from the government, the college may still not opt to change the label, no matter what your visa status is.
