As long as it says you're a U.S. citizen you should be OK. Next time you renew it, you might send along your birth certificate, etc. to get the error corrected.

Go to the passport office with your Birth cert.. and point out to them the mix up. They cant deny you the change because if your birth cert.. is not faked it should be on the Canadian data base.. Its only a matter of checking and cross checking and proveing that you are who you say you are.. Your birth cert... will have to be retrieved in Canada of course, thats assuming you lost yours or dont have one to show them..
I don't think it is a serious issue, but for peace of mind you might want to take it in and have it corrected.
It is important for everyone as far as Birth Certificate is concerned. They must be having some or the other evidence to prove that you was born in USA, like for example documents of the Hospital in US. Just go do the correction in the US office which is a minor one.
I would notify the passport office and see that the corrections are made.
Just because it has not caused any problems yet doesn't mean that it very well couldn't later on. Who knows with the cross networking of computers what problems such could cause later on if not fixed.

At the very least, it is easier to travel. Worst case, you have a federal document with incorrect information on it. There are also issues if you are ever in trouble outside of the United States, if you are detained, etc. Finally, within the United States, you have rights as a U.S. citizen that you do not as a Canadian citizen, specifically social securtiy money when you retire.
Thats odd -- but at least the passport shows you're a US citizen.
A problem could come up someday, however, since your information won't match. If you enter the country with the passport and they ask you where you were born and you don't say Canada, they might think you're not you. Etc. etc.
I'd also note, I know sometimes people don't really know their own story, hard as that is to believe. I used to work for INS, and it wasn't that uncommon for people to think they were born somewhere they weren't, etc., since sometimes families hide things from their kids. It's probably just an error, however, and you should contact the state department to fix it.
You should also have a Social Security Card. Take that along with your Birth Certificate to renew your passport. Your passprot is a type of identifacation but not as important as your BC or ss card.

I believe your passport has expired or will expire soon. In either case, you will have to get a new passport. At that time ask the people you get the application from how you can correct the mistake.
