Aside from legal or criminal, should we allow millions of people from south America to become citizens.?

Let's look at it this way. My wife who obtained her legal permanent residency a year ago was reading on the news that there are currently around 260,000 people on the waiting lists of applicants for legal residency with hundreds of applications submitted as far back as 10 years ago. These people have completed lots of paperwork, provided plenty of documentation and have paid thousands of dollars in application, processing and attorneys fees and still continue to wait on a decision on their cases to live in this country legally, following the rules. Now if just because they are already here, the government decided to award legal status to the millions of people who decided to disregard and break the law by coming here illegally, what would that mean to all those people who decided to play by the rules and are still waiting. What's the message it would be sending.
This is comparable to a drug dealer who after making enough money stops selling drugs and starts a legal business with the money earned illegally. Wouldn't this person have an unfair advantage over another person who had to go to school, started from the bottom and worked his/her way up to make enough money to start a business? Should the government forgive the past just because the former drug dealer is no longer breaking the law?
And one last thing, what if every poor country in the world decided to move illegally by the millions to their nearest richer country, would it make sense for that country to legalize all the illegal immigrants just because there's a lot of them already in the country?

No... Illegal Immigration aside. we have a policy of regulating which countries can send how many immigrants...these figures are based on immigration statistics from previous years... this keeps our immigration diverse.
I have no problem with legal immigrants from anywhere. The illegals begin by breaking the law and then taking advantage of our social services making our tax benefits for US citizens become diluted..

People need to realize that if they want a better life running from the problem doesn't solve it. They come here and expect us to change to satisfy them. Why don't they take the initiative and change their country to a better place. Look at Cubans, they will risk their life traveling 90 miles in the ocean in a little rubber raft over loaded with people, but they won't risk their life to make their country better.
I do not like it one bit that we have illegals in this country but i think we need to look at someone else right now other than Mexicans. At least they are not trying to blow us up or kill us. The Muslims need to be closely looked at and deported as fast as we can get them out of here then start on the Mexicans. Just think how many Mexicans have you heard of trying to blow up JFK air port of kill solders on the Army Base in NJ?
