BTW just to put a little paranoia into those that are.Do you know what I.P. addresses are?? Do you know that they can be traced?? If not, look it up or ask a friend knowledgeable about computers. Ask them all the ways people can be traced nowadays.
I'll qualify since my town is 70% Mexican and I have spoken with some of the illegal immigrants mothers that have children. One told me point blank that the more babies she had the more welfare system support she will get. All told me that once they had a child it was easy to stay here, the child was a natural born citizen and needed to be taken care of.
Should be asking this question in spanish since they never learn the english language.

i live in the bronx. there are illegals all over. the one thing i notice is that most of the answers on this website tend to only address hispanic illegals. which makes me think that there is some truth to this racism thing behind immigration. there are chinese, africans, europeans and canadians. is it ok for the "white" to stay and everyone else leave?
and in response to david c. i think that when they can't find work or get enough money from low paying jobs to support themselves and family back home that's when they resort to having kids for the benefits to supplement their income. also i think a big part of it also has to do with them just not using birth control. whether its their culture or they cannot afford it.
To answer the question I really do believe that illegals are trying to make a better life for themselves. Yes there are a small percentage of bad seeds out there. but there are also citizens and legal residents who are bad seeds also. Don't blame all of society's problems on Illegal aliens.

I am an illegal polish immigrant, brought here by my parents at the age of 10. I am currently 17. What do I want from this country? To stop harassing me and other students that had no choice in coming to this country, and to legalize us. My family pays taxes(legally too), we live in a good neighborhood and abide the law. Other than this? Nothing.
They just want to come to the U.S for jobs that Americans don't want because they don't want the dirty jobs and that pay minimum wage. They just come here to make a living for their families. Yes, some abuse the laws, they should be deported, but others are just trying to work, they are dedicated to what they do so they can put food on the table for their families. Also if everyone got deported to Mexico, America would suffer because they are depended on immigrants. Food grown, houses constructed... if everyone would go Americans would want them back
To the various answers: It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while a really good person can want to come to our country because they see the same opportunity our founding fathers saw. Maybe they've tried ALL of the legal routes; maybe they've even had good-standing Americans write letters on their behalf, offer them a job, a place to live, everything. Maybe they've tried even visiting without staying... maybe none of it worked. When a visa is a little easier to obtain for the regular people (not just the rich folks of the world), there will be less of an illegal immigration issue. The places they're coming from are hell compared to a lot of what we see here. Not all of them are trying to be abusers of the system. Try and be a little more sensitive when placing stereotypes.
Its basically seeking a better life for themselves and their family. The standard of living is higher so even minimal wage is a whole lot more than what they would get back home.
I met this really cool guy who was bartending in Zihuatanejo last year. i talked to him about surfing, camping, the environment, he's also a dj, spinning and mixing and whatnot. basically the guy was buena onda, good people. a lot like my friends all over the us.
anyway, he had worked illegaly in the us for a couple of years. here's what he told me about it. in mexico he had gone to good schools, graduated high school, gone to college for a couple of years ( he spoke english fairly well). he had a couple of jobs but couldn't make more money than what it took to scrape by. so he crossed the border (he didnt't tell me how) and made it up to colorado where his uncle was living (permanent resident allien, legal). there he worked day labor stuff until he ended up on a landscaping crew. he did this untill he got enough money to buy a round trip plane ticket from mexico to london. he went back to mexico- traveled to london as a tourist and stayed with some friends there for like three months before going back to mexico. i met him a few months later, bartending in zihua.
the guy was educated- he had studied biology in college (he didn't say why he didn't finish- money maybe?). the wanderlust hit him. basically, he was like a couple friends of mine from college who quit school for a while to see what else was out there. like any guy in his 20s, he did what he needed to do-to do what he wanted to do. he didn't want more from the US than to get paid for doing hard work, see what it was like here, visit his family, meet good people, have good times.
by the way. zihuatanejo is an awesome place-like a lot of mexico.
