you do have a point that media focus on foreign issues will sidetrack the american public from domestic issues.
However, illegal immigration does make the headlines, and frankly, I think its a popular issue... people love debating it, and learning about the latest political advances on that issue.
the war on terror does create a diversion, but not for this I think.

But, while they are fighting overseas, OUR country has been invaded by foreiners!!! What will THEY come home to in a few years??? I'm sadly afraid that America will NOT be the same as when they left it!!!!
i don't know. i will tell you this. last night i watched a special on the history channel. we had a family father, mother and daughter living here in america. they was from the middle east. the daughter grew in to a young woman and started dating. the parents didn't like what was happening. the father killed his own daughter. well the investigators got to digging into their life. and found out the father was meeting them crazies from the middle east in MEXICO. he was giving them money to help with their effort. now, i'm wondering why the mexican govt let this go on? mexico also harbored Nazis during the war (ww2). i believe this because are govt does not let lies be printed. we teach the truth in america. i have always believed and said the terrorist is coming threw mexico illegally passing them self's off as mexican. who do you think is teaching the mexican drug lords to be ruthless in the way they are killing people in that country?
I think the war on terror is to further similar aims as the NAU, actually. However, I agree they try to trivialize rewriting or ignoring the Constitution by distracting us and calling us 'mean spirited'.
i don't think that any one know exactly what the war on terror is for. it's probably not about terror though. i agree with the person above. it's about oil.
No; however, the by product of waging war is that everything, including immigration, education, social welfare, etc. will not get the full attention that it deserves. It's a juggling act. If you have too many balls to juggle, some will fall and will get ignored. I don't think the war is a "smoke screen" on immigration but immigration is being ignored, to some degrees, by the war.
I think the level of paranoia in this country is rising daily.
In a way the illegal immigrants are kind of lucky we have a war going on, if not for that, on one hand the liberals might not have gotten into office, and also they would be the main news every day. So in the daily news, they are moved off of the front page.

Why people are NOT up in arms over poverty issue's, right to work state laws, all types of immigration & prosecuting employers/Landlords i don't understand. I write Congress.org 4 to 5 times a week alone just on illegal immigration, employers have subverted the laws far to long. You people rely on your vote every 2/4/6/8 years for democracy & there is NO method of proof or verification in the current process! Someone needs to Organize a Volunteer National Militia to be on call for action against these Treasonistic corporate seeded candidate's etc.

As far as my thoughts on the war, I am not sure where I stand. I was never for it in the first place, but I do believe if we leave now, we will put them in a worse situation than before we arrived.
As far as the illegal immigrants go, we have new initiatives, such as WHTI(Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative) and US-VISIT(a system of biometrics to monitor people entiring and leaving the country via fingerprints, set to be in place in Dec. 08). The strength and security of our borders IS being addressed, in a big way.

I think there is a master plan and the war helps to move the plan along faster,I would like to think Bush is just evil and insane but I think there is a plan too.I hope we get to hang the evil low liefs that are bringing this country down,if you only go by what you can see with your own eyes you know we are being hurt bad,and will surely be a third world hell hole in less than ten years.
That's a pretty big diversion. And if its true... then I give kudos to the Bush Administration for thinking big when it comes to diversions.
To be honest, I don't think it takes much to divert attention now in days. Especially since there are many other issues that still need to be addressed and corrected. Remember Illegal Immigration isn't the ONLY thing that's on the mind of Americans, and neither is the war in Iraq.
