Very simple. The corruption of the Mexican Government is keeping it in the third world status.
The real reason is corruption. The ex presidents of Mexico treated Mexico as an atm machine where they would just withdraw cash. Politicians also act in a similar fashion. The corruption is just too great. Anyways the oil in Mexico is running out. By 2020 there might not be any oil left. Sad but true.
Actually, the United States has more oil. We just use THAT much oil and Mexico does not so they export it here.
Because Mexico has been run by a corrupt socialist dictatorship for the last 80 years. Their rule of law has been so shaped around the privileged class that the average citizen knows that they will not receive the same justice as the ruling class.
Government Government Government It takes political action to bring the poor out of poverty. Social programs to bring change and from what I see the only social program money is a gift from the US and corruption eats it up before the poor get what is left. You are right it seems wrong for the government to keep big profits. It is the same here in a way corporate greed is hard on the middle class. Government is not doing their duty to the people.
Natural resources are good, but countries really do prosper when leaders are good and when you have a free market economy. Without freedom and without benevolent leaders a country cannot flourish. And if it has flourished, will cease to flourish under the hand of despots.
Disparity in income and poverty is one measure of success. There are other measures such as disparity in neurotic behavior, disparity in ability to show emotions, disparity in happiness, disparity in amount of time spent watching television, disparity in percentage of population in jail, disparity of people who need prescription medications to get a hard-on or go to sleep at night and disparity in deviancy that are significant. How about disparity in priorities, morality, ethical behavior, family ties...Who wins those? Who wins the disparity in international respect? Who has the biggest national debt? Which country is fighting a meaningless war four thousand miles away? Sometimes the complacent, condescending, smug and superiority-complex imbued country is not really the one ahead of the real game of Life.
When I went to Mexico to purchase breeding cattle, I'd take along cash for bribes to Mexican officials & buy a hand gun from a local cop. When I left, I'd sell it back for 1/2 what I'd paid. I spent many nights sleeping on the floor in the hotel, with my luggage covered up on the bed. When one gets through paying all the bribes to Mexican officials, it is hard to make a profit.
While the people I bought cattle from were honest, they held a low opinion of the peons & treated them like animals. Even now the rich are killing off the indians in Southern Mexico because they want their land. I think the multi national corporations are up to their eyeballs in the land theft taking place there.
One can but wonder why Corporations perpetrate the propaganda claiming Mexican labor is needed here... I suspect that it is simply to increase the labor supply & reduce the wages of Americans. I sympathize with the poor illegals coming here in hopes of a better life, but don't want to reduce our wage earners to their level.
