Illegal immigrants are invaders from a foreign country. Why shouldn't we just shoot them at the border?

We should! They may not understand English, or understand that they are breaking the law, but everybody understands bullets! The whole immigration problem would be over in two weeks. The ones over here, send them home in a body bag, get the message out, that we will not tolerate it. We need to do something that will make the illegals so fearful they will be trying to get back to where they belong.
Because we aren't nazis and this is America not East Germany. If you like Hitler's tactics so much, I suggest you relocate to that part of the world.

Apologies, but why does everybody think the issue to be solely American? There's Europe, too. And Australia.
Now, shooting them is perchance somewhat harsh, since modern Westerners have grown extremely soft. However, physically closing borders with problematic states and areas is a pleasant solution. Not only would a wall keep those sneaks away to some extent, but it will provide a tangible manifestation of our safety, making us think that we're special and dear to our nation (even though we really aren't). It will show the immigrants that they're thoroughly unwelcome. I would compare that to downloading a song illegally and stealing an actual CD from a shop - both are illegal, but clearly the latter is far more discouraging for an average human.
The idea is to keep them out as opposed to keeping people in, as in case of die Berliner Mauer. Our land is our fortress, now that's a decent motto.
We shouldn't shoot them because we need then to do the dirty, underpaid, jobs that we won't do ourselves.

If we did that the price of cement work, produce. potry and many other food items would go up and the poor farmers would be left with paying USA citizens $10.00 an hour to pick the crops, poor businessman, why not let them in freely besides all USA citizen have good jobs, just look at all the new cars & trucks on the road.
