Romanians considered a minority/underpriveleged?
My dad came to the US 30-odd years ago from Romania, after surviving 6 years and some months in Communist concentration camp. He wasn't able to say goodbye to his family.
He attended private school on scholarship b/c he was recognized for his intelligence. Continued thu university, and med school in Bucharest, on scholarship...but no $ from family b/c they were farmers.
Finally escaped to Italy after Communist concentration camp. He weighed 80 lbs after being released, and he's 5'-6"!
After a LOT of hard work and learning English, he's now a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
So, my question is, why are "white" (European) people disregarded as disadvantaged, despite our background?
Answer:
I'm sorry about what happened to your father but he seems to be doing quite well now. As for your question, it seems your no longer disadvantaged. Your father was at one point but not yourself. I don't see people as disadvantages unless their doing poorly for whatever reason and the happenings 30 years ago don't affect the advantages or disadvantages today. I belive one makes their life what they want it to be reguardless of where they came from. Those raised in projects have worked and attended Ivy League schools for example.
Nope. Sorry, buddy. If you are white, prejudice and bias and disadvantage against you don't count.
I don't get it... your father did very well with his disadvantage background. Many others suffered as much and have not done as well through no fault of their own.
You act as if being disadvantage is a fault.. it is just a circumstance.
Lighten up and enjoy the life your father has made for you.
