Looking to emigrate from the UK ---?

Im looking to emigrate to the northern states of the US or canada ( uncle was Canadian (died ) , so I do have relatives over there but dont know where ! ) . I saw that there is a points scoring to be allowed in but my points where not high enough , non french speaking etc .

Im a skilled mechanic and wife if a learning suport worker + medical background ( working that is ) and don't want to just go over there to sponge ! . More than willing to work , would have enough money to live + buy a house . but still not enough points .
Im 31 btw white british Citizen , wife the same .
Any advice on this would be great
Thank you

I emigrated from the UK to Canada 12 years ago, coming over on a work permit, altho it was a lot different then and there was no points system. Now my sister and her family are attempting to do the same and they have already gained the points needed and are not nearly as qualified as you. You dont need to speak French and I think you only gain 1 or 2 points by doing so. If you can specify that you have friends/relatives over here then that is a HUGE plus, but like the last person said, if you choose to go to more remote places then that is in your favour too (plus its a cheaper way to start out). You should also apply (online) to agencies that are willing to interview you for positions when you get here, thats what my sis and bro-in-law did..they had job interviews lined up (or potential interviews) only thing is now they are having to save up the cash to get here. Job websites you can check out are monster.ca or workopolis.ca but for other immigration questions check out: http://www.onestopimmigration-canada.com... or other similar sites
Good Luck!
For Canada, work on your French, take classes with your wife as you will get more points that way. Canada used to also give more points to immigrants willing to go to less popular areas as most want to go to Toronto. By planning to go to Alberta or Manitoba you may get more points. Once you get to Canada you can move where you like but you have to start off in the place you say you will go.
The United States is harder, normally you need a degree and a job offer. There is a fast track to citizenship there though for people who serve in their armed forces. Your skills as a mechanic may help you here but be aware you would need to be trained again to do the particular jobs needed by the military. If you join up and there is any delay getting you on a training course they won't let you just sit around waiting, you will be shipped out to Iraq or Afghanistan leaving your wife alone in the US.
