I'm currently on a tourist visa but was able to land a job in a reputable company even though I made it clear to them that I still yet have to work on my papers. What should I expect?

You better work with immigration...or you deserve to be kicked out of this country. In case you haven't notice...most of us are pissed off you people keep abusing the immigration laws.
you can get arrsted and deported if they are racist or assholes and report you to INS
get a good immigration lawyer
marry an american citizen
all will help the cause.
