Is there anyone out there that remembers that we used to do the work the illegal immigrants are doing?

I know exactly what you mean. My brother used to mow lawns for cash when he was 12-13 years old. Nowadays, he'd probably have trouble finding that type of work because illegals have taken over those jobs. And many young people who are looking for their first job can't find one! I hate it when they say, "We do the jobs that Americans won't do." because it's simply not the case and makes Americans seem like we are elitist jerks.
it's still this way where i live but i have to say that it's kind of hard to find a good hardworking and honest person that i can trust to work for me. in my business we deal with a lot of cash and unfortunately many of today's minimum wage employees are not that honest.
we dont have many immigrants here. the hispanic community is very small in my county
A few things happened:
Some kids don't understand that decent living standards can only be achieved through work.
Increasing competition to get to the best colleges and obtain the best degrees to get one of the few really good jobs means that there is less time to do the unskilled and semi-skilled tasks that are the way into the workforce.
Employers got greedy and wanted to avoid the meddlesome chore of reporting wages, deducting taxes and paying over payroll taxes.
If you read "1984" and appreciate that Orwell was talking about Soviet Russia v China v USA it is actually quite scary to see how much is coming true.
Yes, at one time many of these jobs were what gave our youth their start. Now in my area it is hard to find any jobs because of the illegal criminals invading our country. Sorry but deportation is the only way to help this growing problem.
Cheaper labor happened and did you see Miss America fall at the Miss Universe pageant? Still went on to be in the top 5 and the Mexicans went bananas booing her--first time an American tried to get a Mexicans job! The pageant was held in Mexico City.--Just some humor this Sun. morning--was on TV comedy show
Here's one aspect of the illegals and the jobs they do that isn't talked about. Most farm work is "locked out", meaning if you aren't Mexican you won't get a job on a farm or in the fields. Thanks to Caesar Chavez farm workers have unionized.
Yeah when "we were" young. These days it seems kids just want to connect to the mp3s,and obsessively be glued to the T.V. watching BET videos. And really how the heck it slowly switched. Can only be explained for having been too busy doing other things and not spending time with our children. Which needs to change for America to not end up like a 3rd world country. Question : Can we really over come what's been causing the downfalls? And what will it take to discipline our young generation. And stop having others (envying us well to do) citizens! So that our kids won't be too angry to the point of wasting up their lives through violence?
Is there anyone out there who realizes that someone has to be a pathetic loser to want do those crap jobs. Anyone who is so stupid or genetically flawed that those jobs represent the intellectual limits of his/her capabilities needs to be purged from the gene pool. This will allow the the rest of us to live our lives without being assaulted by stupid thoughts. See your post for an example.
Instead of complaining about who is or is not doing the work, maybe you should work on learning proper grammar!
I remember we had to walk five miles one way in 10 inches of snow for school. There was no such thing of a school bus.
Many have used these jobs as stepping stones to other careers... I also did unskilled labor when I was a teenager and while attending college to help offset some of the expense to my parents and my student loans, luckily for me I received my degree and post graduate education and now have a great job... Some are less fortunate.
I live in an area that is just starting to see the huge influx of illegal immigrants so it is happening now... I am fairly young and I am seeing jobs that my brothers did as stepping stones to their current careers (one is a Civil Engineer, the other is a Marine Computer Technician in Iraq) being taken over by illegals and the wages that were paid drastically being lowered, both brothers worked construction while earning degrees deciding what to do with their lives. I am seeing factories that once provided good decent paying jobs for those not fortunate enough to afford a post high school education changing over to cheap labor and illegal workers to save a few dollars.
The area that I live on is not out West I am on the East Coast and see construction crews that are 100% illegal alien except for the bosses.. The other day a construction company was shut down and only 2 people out of 58 were citizens. I guess it depends on where you live but these jobs were always done by American citizens in my town until recently and those citizens made a good living, raised their kids, bought homes and paid taxes back into the system. I now have a huge respect for what the folks out West have been dealing with for years.. Many use these jobs as a stepping stone to a college education and a better job.
The jobs aren't there for students anymore because employers can get full time illegals and cheaper. Try getting your kid a job he can work around a school schedule these days. My mom used to pick strawberries, my brother bagged groceries, my friends and I used to deliver flyers for businesses to houses.
Still even now, most workers in ALL industries are legally here.
However, now kids no longer look for the jobs, that are JUST NOW becoming available. I saw a newspaper article that Yosemite national park is having a hard time finding summer time LIFE GUARDS for its pools. Kids would kill for a job like that. Tell them.
We still do.
There is no job in the U.S. filled 100% by illegal aliens.
Greedy employers found out they could use illegals and not have to provide a decent (post-tax) living wage, health insurance, or safe working conditions. Unscrupulous illegal aliens just complete the vicious circle.
I still do those jobs as do several people I know.
