Tempting... but, there's no way to make a graceful land grab.
However, there's nothing wrong with delivering an ultimatum to Mexico that states: end the flood of illegals, or suffer economic sanctions.
Just for the record, I rather like the idea of annexing Baja California by force, but one simply can't, can one?
Would Mexico give it up so easily? I don't know anything about this personally, but I do know they have been crying over this issue for some time.
I don't think much would change either way, people want to live the dream, and they will try to seek it out.

That is a completely impossible solution. Aside from the fact that it would alienate us even more from our allies, we would be fighting a war where millions of our own people claim their parents from the other side of the border, including millions of legal immigrants.
If your sole goal is to end illegal immigration, the best way to do so is actively target companies who hire illegals and levy extreme fines. When it is more expensive to hire illegals than it is to hire legal residents (regardless of origin), there will be no jobs for illegal immigrants, and therefore many fewer illegals. This, and ending birthright citizenship regardless of parental status (Have a baby in the US, it's a citizen no matter whether the parents are legal or not) would come very close to wiping out illegal immigration.
Of course, what that would do to the US economy is a question up in the air. Streamlining work visas at the same time might be a good idea, so those who want to come and work honestly can do so easier.

We need to enforce the laws about hiring illegals. We look the other way because it's an expnse to send the illegals home, so we need to fine the businesses who hire them.

I got and idea! Why don't we build a BIIIG minefield and line it with bunkers. We could take all the troopers in Iraq and put them in fortified positions on the border. Then, if an alien manages to get past the minefield (the BIIIG minefield) all they have to do is BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!! bye-bye. . .
