I think that anyone who wants to become a US citizen should have the opportunity to become one, as long as it is done legally and through the proper channels.
How would you feel if you worked your butt off to legally become a US citizen and then the country allowed millions of illegals, some who have never bothered to learn the language, history, or culture, to just waltz in on a free pass?
I am 100% behind legal immigration. The U.S. was built by immigrants. I'm ok with all nationalities, races, religions, etc. immigrating here - legally.
But, I am 100% against illegal aliens and granting amnesty to those who choose to ignore the laws, and cut ahead of the decent, law-abiding people who are patiently waiting to come to the U.S. the right way.
There's been way too much of it for at least 200 years.
Don't kid yourself American citizens won't pick produce for peanuts. You need all the immigrants or you won't eat.
Allow in healthy qualified immigrants that would be a net positive for our country.
Reject sick and lazy people and criminals.
It's okay to let in uneducated people because we need all kinds of jobs filled.
Make them have a sponsor that is responsible for them so they don't go on welfare.

Legal Immigration has been a great benefit for this country. We live in a diverse multi cultural society that has made us aware of other groups of people. My problem lies with illegal immigratoin because it helps no one. Illegals live in squalor conditoins and live in constant fear of deportation. Yet the government has to spend money providing illegals social services.
I think Immigration Laws need to be truely enforced.All this blanket amnesty talk is nonsense. Why should illegals be able to lay low from the law. Its sort of like the Talibans in Iran, providing a safe haven. Illegal is Illegal. Breaking the law is black and white, its no grey area. We need to be like austrailia and limited all immigration before the population gets out of hand. The come here and suck all of our government assistence while we let legal americans go homeless and lose funding for our veterans coming back injured from the war. Pretty soon america will be a third world country if we dont put a stop to this madness
immigration in this country is a debacle. the hypocrisy that exists surrounding this issue astonishes me.
first. there is a supply and demand side to this issue. immigrants (legal and illegal) are attracted to this country by the jobs that small businesses and corporations offer to ILLEGALLY hire them for lower wages that benefit their overall profit and cheaper prices for us the consumer to pay.
the hypocrisy lies with our governments inability to create policy that protects the American worker while serving the needs of the companies that need the foreign worker. the hypocrisy also lies in the average American who complains about immigration yet benefit from existence! they want Pancho and maria to do their dirty work but they don't want them to make a livable wage, or have their children attend a school to become educated, or visit a hospital for emergencies much less preventative care!!

America is and will always be the land of the free. As a Mexican-American I am proud to have been born in America most of the time. I believe Immigration is a problem that will never be alleviated. I don't think immigration is even a problem. What is a problem is illegal immigration. Not that I don't want Mexicans here in America, I just wish that they could do it legally to shut any politicians or anti-immigrants up. Of course there are the down sides to immigration, but the positive aspects far outweigh those downs. There are so many opportunities for advancement in regards to jobs and education in American that people strive to get a chance at. Obviously building a 700 mile wall on the Mexican-American border will not keep Mexicans from coming to America. I don't know how in the world any person, including our President would think that such a thing would work or that it would even be moral, but our President is a whole other issue.
Illegal immigration is a tough issue simply because it is illegal. Immigration itself is what has kept the diversity of this great nation of ours alive and allowed us all to experience different ideas of race and religion. In a lot of ways we are lucky. We may have problems that stem from immigration, but immigration is also the thing that makes us great. It's called taking the good with the bad. Any ignorant moron who is posting that we've had enough immigration, obviously has native American parents, right? No. That person thinks that just because white people came here four hundred years ago we have some carte blanche on this country. How convenient.
Anyone that has entered this country illegally is a criminal.

Anyone that thinks that Amnesty should be granted to the 12 million criminals that illegally reside in our country is an idiot and has no business being called an American.

I wish we would enforce the immigration laws as they now exist. I am for LEGAL immigration following the law. This limits the number of immigrants each year to something we can support.
Illegals who sneak across the border do so because they know they can find work somewhere and send the money back home.
Employers hire them beause they can pay substandard wages which increases their profits. If they had to hire Americans then they would have to raise wages and they would have plenty of applicants to pick their crops. Yes, this would raise prices but everyones wages would also increase. This would greatly help reduce the welfare rate as people realize they can actually make a living wage by picking crops.
Many hospital emergency rooms are closing permanently because illegals go there for routine medical help. They know they won't have to pay anything and the hospitals have to care for them by federal law. No one can be turned away from an emergency room even if they have no way of paying for the care. To stop the loss of money, many hospitals simply close their emergency rooms.
Over 30% of people in jail are illegals who have committed crimes in this country. This costs you the taxpayer money. Rents and costs of buying houses are way too high because we have too many illegals in this country competing for the same apartments and houses. If they left, prices would plummet giving us all a break.
If they left, traffic jams would clear up and the air would be cleaner. Gasoline prices would drop due to less demand. Food prices would also drop.
If the government would simply punish the employers who hire these people this would all be solved. There should be an 800 phone number an employer would call to verify the worker's name and social security number. If it doesn't match then you can't hire them. If you do, it should be a felony crime with jail time and big fines.
If there were no jobs for illegals they would leave and not come back.
Like I said, I am in favor of LEGAL immigration but certainly not illegal. Last year the USA accepted more legal immigrants than all the rest of the world combined. We are already doing our part. We don't have the money and resources to do it for everyone who sneaks across the border.
I promise you this. If we don't stop this now, the problem will only increase every year until we the taxpayers are broke and the country will not be able to provide adequate food or water for all of us. Something must be done NOW.
We don't NEED crap this is our damn country and if we as blue collar working class families decide that working in the fields all day for 5 something an hour isn't good enough then so be it I mean the Gov. can afford to pay basketball players millions and millions for bucks for what because they can jump high ? That's B.S. If and IF is a big word here they want to come here and really make a better life for them and for their families I have no problem with that but when they start getting free hand outs from the Gov, that is just crap and if they are going to be here they need to learn the English language at least that's what they could do !

every country must have an immigration policy and every immigrant must abide by these laws.
Almost all immigrants are going to the US of A seeking to make live better for themself and family. Life in their country is unbearable..scarcity of jobs, housing compounded by high taxes.
Lets cut the crop.. if these "immigrants" stayed at home and pressured their government changes must come. These people are looking for the easy way out and american policy is soft. Only in america can your own kids sue you. In school the rule is spare the rod and spoil the child. where is the rod of correction gone?
Sure, i also believe that immigrating to the US for a job that you are qualified for is great for example look at the medical and teaching profession, the US private and government authorities offer job incentives for nurses and teachers with their immediate family from the caribbean to go to the US.
This causes a "brain drain" in these country and in turn worsen's the social problems aflicting the family structure in the caribbean and central america were the parents leave there children with grandmothers or relatives who don't give the due care and love as the natural parents would.
eventually these kids grow up on the street do drugs get involve with gangs , sell drugs, arms, prostitution and eventually end up in prison or RUN AWAY TO THE US.

Here is an idea beyond the legal vs illegal traditional debate: maybe, just maybe the U.S. immigration system is so organized that it pushes perfectly eligible immigrants into illegality and lawlessness. Here is a fact: a permanent resident of the United States is expected if he marries to a non-citizen and a non immigrant to wait in average four years before he can lawfully bring his wife in the U.S. (Knowing of course that a permanent resident loses all his residency rights if stays out of the U.S. more than 6 months/year) If this doesn't sound like a policy to discourage those who wish to marry non-immigrant to do so i don't know what is. So if you are really in love and wish to be together with your wife or husband, you will most likely either renounce your residency (therefore reducing the number of immigrants) or quietly smuggle him/her into the country making him/her an illegal alien for everyone to point at and accuse for their misery.
