advertisementA passenger in a truck hauling 66 bales of marijuana through the Tohono O'odham Nation was arrested Tuesday afternoon for his part in a fatal collision that killed a Tucson woman, an official said.
Jose Miguel Ramirez-Soto, 22, was booked into Pima County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder under the felony murder rule, said Detective Marty Fuentes, the vehicular offenses supervisor for the Tohono O'odham Police Department.
The felony murder rule allows suspects to be charged with murder if a person dies during the commission of certain felonies.
Ramirez-Soto was also arrested on suspicion of a drug violation and for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to jail records.
Ramirez-Soto, a Mexican citizen, was in a Chevrolet pickup truck reported stolen from California. The truck ran a stop sign at Arizona 86 and Federal Route 1, about three miles outside of Why, Fuentes said. Why is roughly 120 miles west of Tucson.
Susan Bieger, 53, was killed when the truck broadsided her car. She was headed for a weekend stay in Puerto PeƱasco, where she and her husband own a home, Fuentes said.
The driver of the pickup truck and another passenger fled from the scene of the 5:45 p.m. crash. Investigators have leads on who the driver might be, Fuentes said, but aren't ready to release the information. They suspect he is a drug smuggler who will return to othe United States.
Police suspect the other passenger is Ramirez-Soto's 19-year-old brother, Eduardo Ramirez-Soto. He fled to Mexico, Fuentes said.
Jose Ramirez-Soto didn't make it far from the crash because he suffered serious injuries, Fuentes said. He was taken to a Phoenix hospital and arrested upon his release.
Police found 66 bales of marijuana that spilled from the stolen truck. Each bale weighed about 25 pounds and police recovered 1,401 pounds of the drug, Fuentes said.

That's awful. Thanks for posting.
What's your point?
I'm sorry this woman died, I really am. But what does any of this have to do with family values?
Disgusting story.
Let's see who defends their actions.
Family values come into play when you consider that 2 of the suspects are brothers. Is committing a terrible crime and then running away part of their upbringing?
still wondering what is your point? are you looking for all the bad thing Hispanics do . also look for bad things whites do. it is about the same. as blacks. its a shame for the maria Juana . to be wasted man a lot of whites are going to be upset. that is for sure.
say do we have to follow the steps of someone like Susan Smith, Andrea Yates, Timothy McVeigh.Ted Kesinsky, Jeffrey Damer, are those real role models , with high family values , sorry I doubt of you.
if the guy was transporting dope , it was only to sell it to ppl like you and me , if it was no consumers it wouldn't be sellers .there enough said
disgusting! and illegals only want a better life, yes for what they were going to sell the pot for they would have a better life, and another murder committed by another illegal. they are all criminals !!! i hope death penalty is available for this one!!!
Welcome to the United States of Mexico. It's only going to get worse until we close our borders and deport all of the illegals.
With a handle like "f_all_wetbacks'", you aren't really qualified to talk of values, now are you?.
I wonder if the illegal will make a claim against the US for violation of his civil rights (restriction of trade)? Or maybe the woman that was killed caused the accident and it was her fault that she's dead. What about he was under emotional distress after that long drive from California where he "borrowed" the truck?
Just trying to figure out what his scum bag attorney will claim as his defense!
