If the immigration problem was to solved incrementally, which step should be done first?
Answer:
Jail people who hire them.
Problem solved.
The president and congress will pass a law that says,
" No one in this country that does not have legal status; will never for any reason be granted any type of legal status.
Enforce our current laws
Arrest/Deportation.
Secure the border.
I think you need to stop people from coming here illegally first.
Seal the border and allow nothing or no one to cross illegally. All must be checked before passing.
THEN enforce all other existing laws.
Reexamine those laws that were instituted and used by the Eisenhower administration. THEY WORKED!
Secure the border with a fence, technology, manpower or whatever else will work. Then, round up the illegals and go by a case by case basis to determine their fate. Absolutely enforce the immigration laws we now have and forget any other laws or bills that tend to make things worse. If we determine we need a guest worker program, absolutely punish any business that hires illegals (assuming we have a fool-proof ID card for the guest workers). Limit the number of LEGAL immigrants that can come here by their country and job skills. Learning English and blending into our society is mandatory. Maybe they can bring a custom or tradition from their country, but they must be AMERICANS first and foremost.
Define the terms.
What is an "immigrant"? "A person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another". Typically such a person, in embracing the new country, learns the language, takes up citizenship by "swearing allegiance" to the new country.
What is an "alien"? A person who is in one country who "owes political allegiance to another country or government. Belonging to, characteristic of another and very different place, society. Dissimilar, inconsistent, or opposed."
What is "illegal"? "Prohibited by law or rules"
Now, if the person is an illegal alien, deport them. No more problems.
