Why do so many people oppose to George W. Bush's immigration reform?
His plan is about enforcing our immigration laws to the max and give legal status to the illegal immigrants who have been in the United States for several years without criminal records. I think it's a good idea to do this as long as we enforce our immigration laws. A lot of illegal immigrants just come here to get a better life that they cannot get in their country. They don't do anything bad really.
Answer:
Because he's WRONG. How dare you! What do you mean "they don't do anything bad?" ARE YOU NUTS!? They sponge off the tax payer, don't pay taxes, DEMAND services they don't have a right to, education and medical demands, identity theft, taking jobs from citizens, bankrupt CA, etc... Shall I continue? THEY ARE CRIMINALS!
Why should we give legal status to people that are breaking the law? It was a disaster when Regan did it, why will it be different this time?
His AMNESTY program rewards people for breaking the law. He says it's not amnesty but it is.
I don't care that the illegal alien criminals "come here for a better life." Do it LEGALLY. Better yet, stay in Mexico, or where ever, and fix their home country!!!!!!!! Don't come here and destroy ours.
No amnesty for the ones already here. Ignorance is no excuse. and you pretty well summed up the reason for not wanting to take the legal route. Well guess what? Tough.
Because the 'family unification' rights of those deemed legally here would dwarf the existing problem, and the failed schools in our border states would only be the tip of the iceberg.
Poor people can't pay their own way in taxes; we subsidize them. That money is taken from our own children's education and the health care for our own sick. There are reasons we have limits on immigration.
Driving wages down for the people who pay the taxes that fund education and other services is another result of too large a mass of immigration of poor people without special skills.
I think its a great idea he has , unlike Dizneyfreak1 who
probably can`t stand the fact that alot of illegal aliens lives a better live than him . He is just jealous that they own their own houses and drive better cars than him because he is probably on welware .Too lazy to do something better for himself than to sit
and condemm people who wants to better themselves. It probably kills him to see those people live a better life than him.
Eat your heart out Dizneyfreak1 because immigration reform is right around the corner.
Why didn't Bush say what he would do once these new guest workers refuse to leave. How many amnesties can you have a year?
I think Mr. Bush is negotiating w/ the dems now about immigration.
I do support the Dream Act for kids who were brought and raised here (against their will) and are doing well at school and not getting into trouble.
Like the amnesty bill of 1986, the current Senate proposal would place those who have resided illegally in the United States on a path to citizenship, provided they meet a similar set of conditions and pay a fine and back taxes. The illegal immigrant does not go to the back of the line but gets immediate legalized status, while law-abiding applicants wait in their home countries for years to even get here. And that's the line that counts. In the end, slight differences in process do not change the overriding fact that the 1986 law and today's bill are both amnesties.
There is a practical problem as well: the 1986 act did not solve our illegal immigration problem. From the start, there was widespread document fraud by applicants. Unsurprisingly, the number of people applying for amnesty far exceeded projections. And there proved to be a failure of political will in enforcing new laws against employers.
After a six-month slowdown that followed passage of the legislation, illegal immigration returned to normal levels and continued unabated. Ultimately, some 2.7 million people were granted amnesty, and many who were not stayed anyway, forming the nucleus of today's unauthorized population.
So here we are, 20 years later, having much the same debate and being offered much the same deal in exchange for promises largely dependent on the will of future Congresses and presidents.
Will history repeat itself? I hope not. In the post-9/11 world, secure borders are vital. We have new tools — like biometric technology for identification, and cameras, sensors and satellites to monitor the border — that make enforcement and verification less onerous. And we can learn from the failed policies of the past.
President Bush and Congress would do better to start with securing the border and strengthening enforcement of existing immigration laws.
The fair and sound policy is to give those who are here illegally the opportunity to correct their status by returning to their country of origin and getting in line with everyone else. This, along with serious enforcement and control of the illegal inflow at the border — a combination of incentives and disincentives — will significantly reduce over time our population of illegal immigrants.
There should be no amnesty for the ones already here. They broke our law. That is not a good first impression. No matter how long they've been here, they are still criminals. They are parasites that leech off of our good nation. Americans have worked long and hard to make our country what it is. Why should we let these people come over here for a free ride?
American citizens don't get pardons for their crimes, no matter what the reason was that they committed them.So why should we pardon foreigners?
Everyone mentions how bad it is in their country. We have thousands and thousands of illegals here. Why don't they make an attempt to change their country instead of coming here and leeching off of us...because they are too lazy.
Have you seen some of our towns and cities on and near the Mexican border. Some of them resemble third world countries because of all the illegals. Contrary to the popular belief, America is not invincible, they will do this to the rest of our country too. I truly believe that that will be our downfall. Americans being so arrogant as to believe that we cannot be hurt. One day the third world terrorists,or the waves of immigrants, will be what tear down the country that we have worked so hard to create.
The problem is this:

just because you were lucky enough not to be caught for several years doesn't mean you are free of criminal activity. A murderer or bank robber doesn't get away with his crime if he isn't caught right away, it's the same thing. The guest worker program is a good idea, but it should be for the people who have been waiting to legally get into the U.S. Anyone who is here illegally, whether 2 days or 20 years should be deported and not allowed to come back for the designated 10 years.
