How do you go about doing a formal invite for someone in another country so that they can come to the states?

Also how much does it cost?

Answer:
Depending on what country the person is from, they may need to apply for a tourist visa at the US consulate in their country. You may have to submit an I-134, affidavit of support showing the person will not be a public charge when here and you will support him/her. Visa fees vary per country. go to State Department website (www.travel.state.gov) If the visa is issued, the person can enter the U.S., but the date that the immigration officer stamps on the persons passport or I-94 is the date they need to leave by-even if the date on the visa is a later date. if you are taking about an exchange student, look up J visa information.
just go to the US immigration site and see how you can invite a friend, or contact them by phone they will help you too.
I don't think it costs much
You just write a letter inviting the person to visit you. It's not complicated. It costs about 80 cents to send the letter by air mail.
You just invite them. They would need a passport and maybe a visa, depending on where they're coming in from. The biggest holdup might be affording the air travel. That's pretty pricey, depending on where they're coming from.
I don't know the cost cause every country is different, but the only way you can find out about the invitation visa is applying at an inmigration office, they have forms for everything, and expensives ones too.
