Are you Mexican American or American Mexican?
Answer:
You are Correct, those that identify ,themselves as Mexican
Americans normally owe no Allegiance to America. Americans identify themselves as Americans first whatever their bloodlines.
half full or half empty, big difference you think?
Either you are American or not. The hyphen crap is stupid and something easily embraced by the ignorant. The sheepled populace that embrace things like the hyphenate also think affirmative action and EEO are good programs for the new millennium.
Fact is, EEO and affirmative action make sure that the very people that embrace it will remain on the bottom rung of society. Affirmative action says nothing more than "You aren't good enough to achieve anything and have to be given the dream". It is that mindset that keeps the flow coming across the border and flooding our country with uneducated, intellectually stunted criminals who leech off anything that is given them.
Oh I realize many of the very sheeple I mention will give me thumbs down but then I always get a good laugh at them so by all means shoot em to me over there >>>>>>>>>>
Actually the correct term would be Mexican American because you are suppose to put you country of citizenship last.
Examples: African American or French Canadian
But, you should like your country that you are a citizen of better than your ancestors countries.
You bring up a good point. It is all in the way a person is brought up. I agree, that if anyone is in the U.S. legally, they should have respect and say they are American. Do not put any country down, especially in the country you live in. It is like coming into someone's home and doing what you please.
Very disrespectful. Do not take it to heart though what name is said first. First of all, it just rolls on the tongue better with American being pronounced last. Why are you just pointing out Mexican. Have you not heard Afro American, Chinese American, etc. Bottom line, I agree to love this country or move away.
I am a proud Mexican, (born in CA) but would do what it takes, to stand up for my country,
The United States of America, Blessings to all
I can never understand why anyone who crosses over the border for a better life still holds Mexico in high regard. The country offered them nothing and still to this day what is Mexico offering that makes people who leave to remain in love with it. Myself I'd be glad to the further away I am all the better..Mexico in all fairness just brain washes it's people for one reason to continue to send funds to Mexico.I don't understand how Mexico can be so loved when all they did is tell you to leave and remember send us money back
You could be born in this country and your family could be here for generations. It doesn't matter about the hyphen...you could be full blooded mexican-american, african-american, irish-american, japanese-american. What's your problem?
Neither. American. Otherwise I'd be Irish-English-German- French- Sioux -American..little wordy don't you think? One of my kids would be that plus Dutch and Swedish and Norwegian..the other Cherokee-African etc.Their kids would have Cuban- Puerto Rican- Mexican and Spanish added....damn.the Greeks and Italian and Australian would be offended then...LOL
In my opinion..you're American or your not. Doesn't take a brain child to know if you're black somewhere down the line there's African descent. If you're white...Europe, somewhere is in your lineage. On down the line. There's being proud and then there's being ridiculous.
Zoe,you may not believe this but I agee with you on a partial statement. You should have added "white people from Mexico". I guess white people in the USA think the same way, because alot of them think Mexican-Americans are dumb. They feel they can always degrade and talk down to them.Guess what this same white Americans are shocked when I snap back at them, because they do not expect it.
I agree with zoe. Now change his statement to read African-American.
You are probably one of the dumbest people on YA. And you don't even have clue what you are talking about.
Are you that upset? These Americans of Mexican descent have the right to called themselves whatever they want. They were born here (almost all, unless they earn their citizenship), so how can you tell them to go back to Mexico?
Are you upset you share the same citizenship with them? Well, get over it, they are American just as you are, but they have culture, American and Mexican. You only have American, you never even cared to look back and see where exactly your family came from, right? (unless you/they are Native American of course).
So please be quite.
I am an immigrant. I loves my home country, but I loves America more than my home country.
in that case you need to tell the blacks ,chinese, irish and everyone else who celebrates their culture here that they are either this or that
American of Mexican descent. I love the US and for the right reasons, would sacrifice my life to preserve what it represents. I have issues with terms such as Mexican American, Chicano, Hispanic, and Latino as they are government labels.
Both my parents were born in Mexico and my customs/culture (food, music, family, hard work, etc) reflects that. However, I pledge allegiance to the stars and stripes, make no mistake about it.
