when you think of all the things that would have to be done for illegals to make them "acceptable citizens", the cost of keeping them here is staggering. i wonder how much it would be. i do know that a one-time cost of deporting them would be so much cheaper

It is MUCH cheaper to deport (assuming they can't get back) then to support them (and give them public services).
The costs to deport has been estimated at about 300 billion. The costs of making them all citizens, in the end, has been estimated to be between 4 and 6 Trillion dollars.
There is no real question about that. Of course it would be cheaper. However, I don't see it happening wholesale. I CAN see REALLY denying benefits beyond emergency medical care prior to deportation however, which would vastly limit how many want to be here.
