Regarding border patrol. Where is my friend? Could he be detained for this?

I have a friend(Mexican national) who tried crossing from Tijuana to U.S.A last week. He has no papers and told the guard he was an American citizen, i heard everything since my friend was on the phone with me while he was crossing. The guard got suspicious and told him to hang up. I havent heard from him in 7 days, and the next day his phone got disconnected. Could he be detained for that?

yes!! your friend did a REALLY stupid thing. and, you aren't allowed to use cell phones at the border while in the process of crossing through. often, because so many gang members come in through mexico, and they are from guatemala, they send many mexicans all the way to guatemala, because they have no way of knowing for sure if they are really mexican or not. the guatemalan gang members will say they are mexican in order to get back into the US faster (less distance to retravel.) so...your friend very well may be in guatemala!! or possibily still being detained. i'm sure he called somone, but it might not have been you. ask around his family. don't worry...they aren't going to hurt him or anything....but, that was an extrememly STUPID thing to do. naive, and disrespectful as well.
For falsley claiming U.S. citizenship? Yep, he could be detained for that...and SHOULD be detained for that.

yes he can be detained i would call border patrol and see where they hold their prisoners, a few of my friends were caught and they all were placed somewhere different
