However, it would be a good idea to get some professional advice, even if only from a Citizens Advice Bureau.
As for retaining your South African citizenship, the UK has no problem with this, but you need to check with South Africa House to see if they have the same attitude.

You have to be resident in UK for five years before even applying for citizenship.
I am assuming that you are currently in New Zealand. You could try contacting the British Embassy in NZ (where ever there is one) and asking them.
Do approach the immigration department in both countries to get the appropriate and accurate information required.
The granting of dual citizenship will depend on your country of birth and the countries involved.
If you are married to a UK man and lived with him for 3yrs in the UK, you can apply for your UK citizenship and then get a UK passport. You can also go on the Home Office website and apply.
I am married to a UK man and thats the process. However I got my UK citizenship through my father since he formerly lived in the UK.
