The U.S. has always been the land of opportunity. I don't know how likely it is that you could come here, (though I do know some people that have.) Check with the American consulate/embassy in your area and ask them. Even if you don't come here, I'm sure they can answer your questions. I bet they get asked this all the time.
I've read stories of a refugee program to be started here specifically for Iraqi Refugees. I belive on the order of around 7000 are going to be allowed this year to come to the US as a refugee.
That said, to be a refugee you need to have "fled your country of origin because of past persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution based upon race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or a membership in a particular social group" to be defined as a -- refugee --
So it might be best if you can somehow make it out into another country like Canada, Australia or any other stable country while applying for US Refugee status.
