I think what has really made them mad is, they can not talk about you without you knowing what they are saying.
Becaues they think that we should conform to them...YEAH RIGHT!!! I think they should know English before coming here, or don't bother!
I have never seen them get mad. I have alot of friends/family who are Mexican. I also speak very good Spanish and when they talk Spanish in front of me it doesn't bother me at all. I speak Spanish and they speak English to me. That way they are good at their English and I'm good at my Spanish.
Because if people like you start learning Spanish, they can understand all of our conversations and we can't talk about them anymore
We're America. We conform to other cultures when we're in their countries and when they're in ours. Rediculous. All Americans now need to learn spanish.
Well I dont know, to which kind of Latin Americans you have bumped into. I am a Latina and Very proud of it, and most of my friends are Americans they speak English and I speak their language, and at the same time they love when I talk to them in Spanish, they even ask me to teach them.... The only thing I have to say is that we all need to get along no matter who you are and where you come from, treat people nice and with respect, stop having prejudice against people because of the way look dress or where they come from. Because after all we are all human beings made of blood,flesh,and bones, and the brevity of life is very amazing, we all should just try to live in peace and get along with every body:)

I admit, it does make me a little angry when a couple of Hispanics are chatting when I wait on them. I do think it is rude.
Also, at the grocery store, when a hispanic is waiting on me, and begins speaking Spanish to the person standing behind me. I do not feel they are talking about me or anything, just chatting about the weather or whatever, but it is rude.

If you notice, talk to them and look them in the eye, they won't make eye contact. It's like they have something to hide.

I speak Spanish and several other languages.I live in Arizona and Ive never experienced that.
Since I am a natural blond(bragging lol) with fair skin and blue eyes,people that don't know me are usually surprised that I do speak Spanish.
But Ive never had any Hispanic get upset when I speak English or Spanish to them.
Just my own experience.
80% of the USA speaks English.If they choose to learn another language they can .But no one that is an American should ever have to learn any language but English.We are a majority English speaking nation.

Maybe because they have a right 'not to like' something just as you have a a right 'not to like something'. And no, I'm not Mexican. But it seems to me that there are a lot of people here who are extremely intimidated.
I find it to be exactly the opposite. But it is important that you not assume that they cant speak English. If they can, then they might be a little insulted that you assume they dont. Also, are you butting into their private conversation to say something? That is sometimes rude. Try and use regular decency when speaking to anyone. I find spanish speakers to be relieved and suprised when i speak spanish to them.
you cant say that all of these people (immigrants) will get upset when you speak to them in english or spanish. I have never experienced this. Whatever group you are talking about, you have to remember that they are people to and not everyone is happy and jolly all the time. We are humans and have feelings. You dont know where they come from and what they have been throught and maybe they cant cope with there experiences as well as you. Dont stereotype. By the way its a fact that Latinos are the fastest minority to learn english.
