Is it fair that green cards be handed out like potato chips. just a thought(read on)?

i dont think so! my family worked in the fields too(and they NEVER complained, they were grateful to even have a job) and waited more than 10 years, paid THOUSANDS of dollars and worked very hard(never got government benefits too) to become LEGAL. WE WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS. and new immigrants dont want to wait?? give me a break! my family is now a group of LEGAL, LOYAL, AMERICA- LOVING IMMIGRANTS.

Answer:
I agree its crap. I moved here from the UK in 1990 and had to go through years of lawyers , money and interviews, all the time working and paying taxes. I did not even become a citisen until 2003 . I think you should earn it like everyone else. it's kind of discrimination, some can , some can't BS. If you want to be here you should follow the rules.. like the rest of us.. No free hand Outs!
I understand that you and your family went through alot of hardship, but shouldn't you want better for future generations.
The plutocrats who run America don't care what is fair or what anybody else thinks.

Whatever allows them to maximize their profits by hiring the cheapest labor possible is and will remain the de facto law of the land.
Press 1 for English. Press 2 for DEPORTATION. That sums it up.
I would have to disagree. Or, I think you worded your question wrong. Legal immigration is a good thing. These are the people that actually earned their way into the country. It's the people who want to duck and dodge their way into this country illegally that get me.
I don't believe that just anyone should get a green card and it should be a difficult thing to do to get to become a citizen. For example look at those 6 men that were arrested for plotting against Fort Dix. Two of those men were legal immigrants, we either failed in our research process of those men or they developed these actions after they came over. My problem with this subject is not that we give them out but it's to those that don't have them that are complaining that we send them home or fine them and throw them into holding until they can then be sent home. How can someone not understand that if you break the law, if it's speeding 90 in a 55 mile an hour zone, throwing litter out the window, murdering someone or coming into this country illegally without giving a care about doing it the right way it's all against the law. One law should be honored as much as the next. That is why I have a problem with the whole subject. If you come into this country the legal way then God bless you and I hope you live prosperously...if you don't then you don't deserve to get the assitance from our government agencies. That is like funding criminials we are giving aid to those who don't care about the law. But this is all just my opinion.
Edit: But why be hypothetical? Why, just to have people here say...what?...poor you and your poor family and damn those that want a faster process? It is what it is. And there are many and abundant reasons why and why change is inevitable. Things change all the time. It's not like you were dragged here as slaves. Why not just be happy that the process worked for you and you weren't deported?

I don't get when people post questions that people don't understand. It's up to you to write in a way that makes us understand. Duh.
Where are these green card potato chips you are talking about?? Do you know how many green cards are issued by the US government? These illegals have to pay the thousands of dollars too...so dont whine! More then likely the only reason they even got legal was because of you.so what about the immigrants who dont have children here? They still have to go thru the same circus as your family..so read up on the amnesty and immigration laws!!!
I can appriciate those who follow the rules and go through the process and good for them. It is the ones that come here to excape their criminal, drug, and bad habits histories, and expect to get what they wish and end up committing more crimes in the US and then claim they don't understand the law or ENGLISH, which by the way is the National Language of the United States, and should be the only one spoken in schools, businesses, and culture, they could sell the books that we need when we go to Europe and such to learn what their words mean to cross reference. If the ones who are already here and now crossing or thinking about it and they are illegal and they know it, they should have it branded across their fore heads in big letters, deported with nothing but the clothes on their backs, this way the border patrol would be able to dectect these losers easier and kick them in the rear to send them back, then the word will get out and it will more then likely slow down the non legal entries, if they don't listen gun them down.
I think Bush and company are actually working on something where you can now get a green card in every other 12-pack of Pepsi...or by turning in 25 losing lottery tickets, something like that. No purchase necessary, offer not available in all states, see store for details! LOL
Your family worked in the fields and they went through a process. and what process what that? Amnesty? How did they get green cards if they were here illegally?

Right the achor baby process.
Amen,And immigrants didn't build this country anyway. Americans did.

Immigration averaged only 235,000 persons per year prior to the disastrous 1965 Immigration Act. That's only 47 million immigrants over the course of our nation's history. Compared to our current population of nearly 300 million, that's not much. And then, if we add all the people who have lived before in the United States, we are approaching a billion total Americans who live now or who have lived in this country—all of them, or at least most of them, busy "building" it.
