If I get caught breaking US law, can I hide my US citizenship and get deported instead of going to US jail?
It's still a pain in the *** to get caught breaking the law, but if it has to happen, it seems like the most beneficial route to take is as an undocumented alien rather than a US citizen.

You probably could do that. I know a lot of foreign students in the US get credit cards max them out then go abroad and change their names. The US government really doesn't care about things like stopping crime. They might even like the idea of sending you abroad in order to save prison space and expenses. Right now, I'd say it's very possible to do what you are saying.

Illegal or not, you are going to Jail with the charges of the crime and to be there illegally. Even you can be condemned to death if you are not US citizen and if you scape to the country of origin the US government will ask for you to go back to US for trail and jail.
