How can i renew my permanent resident card?
Answer:
If you are a legal permanent resident who was issued an I-551 valid for 10 years, then you may renew your card by filing Form I-90 and paying the fee. The fee now is $260, but starting July 30, 2007, it will be $370. You may renew your card now if it will expire in the next 6 months.
If you are a conditional resident, you need to have the conditions removed on your permanent resident status by filing Form I-751; the fee now is $275 and will be $545 by July 30.

why do they call it permanent if you have to renew it?
you don't have to, hence the word 'permanent.' if the card has an expiration date, then you just need an updated one by that date. It is not the same as renewing your visa.

GO TO THE INS WEBSITE, FILL OUT THE RENEWAL PAPERWORK AND SUBMIT WITH THE FEE. THEY WILL CALL YOU IN TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPIRED ONE AND BIOMETRICS WHILE THEY PREPARE YOUR NEW ONE.
