What should be the topic for my argument research paper on Immigration?
Many of the good topics are taken: birthright, english as an official language, amnesty, etc. If any of you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Many of you have already established that a possible right for illegal immigrants to vote is a bad idea, as I suspected.
Answer:
A good topic would be-Do we have the right to control our borders and who we let in? Why or why not?
How about reinterpreting the 14th Amendment to end anchor babies. Specifically this clause
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside."
It was put in the Constitution so that slaves were not denied citizenship. Some court decided that if you are born here, you are a citizen, even if your mother is an illegal. This is insane.
Liberals have reported me and gotten me suspended for using this term at least once. Shows what they think about this.
Illegal immigration is ruining our schools.
You might mention, one reason we have so many illegals is that it's almost impossible and sometimes it is impossible for foreigners to come here, even to visit. The embassy's think they have a pre-conceived notion of staying here indefinitely and reject their applications. I know this from talking to many Asian people on the net.
Illegals are bringing their third world countrys with them.
try education . the us is the only nation i know of that cannot deny elem and hs ed to illegal children. in many otehr nations you must pay fior ed even if you are legal.
How about starting with; These people are total PIGS. Why should we allow them in our country when they have already trashed the country they left behind. These people don't care where they throw there trash, they discard there used toilet paper on bathroom floors, they bathe at public swimming pools, beach's lake's etc. The neighborhoods they take over they ruin, old tires, junk cars garbage and trash everywhere. I constantly see these people throwing trash out there windows of there cars. They don't care!
Maybe you could compare it to what happened to our country in the Civil War. How opposing attitudes towards domestic issues split us apart brother to brother, father to son, and so on. For it is doing that and something should be done before it gets out of hand. Talk about some alternatives to the growing hostility. What fuels, what doesn't. For example, a person above found fault with when a baby is born here it is automatically an American citizen. How perhaps does she think she got automatic citizenship? She was born here.

I don't mind immigrants as America is a land of immigrants. I mean that every one of us has a heritage in another country. My family came from Canada. I only wish that ppl would be decent and come here legally.
what is the big deal with becoming legal? Is there something that would stop them or stand in the way of becoming legal?

That they should get jobs, pay taxes, and struggle like the rest of us. They shouldn't get off easy becuase they were born in another country.
For example many ppl live here, pay taxes, ect. and aren't entitled to even HALF of the benfits that illegals get.
If they want this country so bad, why not do it legally? If their own country is as bad as they claim why not become legal?
If their country is really as bad as they claim, how do so many stay there without complaint?
Many from America go to other countries to live with those laws.
I am not totally happy with everything my country leaders do, but...I still stay.
Illegals want to come and get the benefits at our expense! They have no health insurance.. so if one should get sick and need medical care.. who pays? Americans!
Other countries have this same problem. It is not unique to America. So one would ask, why America over some other country? What does America offer that others do not?
I also heard on CNN that Bush now wants to give all illegals social security benefits and they only have to earn 1/2 the credits that the rest of us do!
FYI,
Illegal aliens do vote. It is illegal to ask for proof of citizenship when they register.. It is illegal for them to vote and it is illegal for them to register to vote but then again it is ILLEGAL for them to be here. Do you really think they mind breaking another law?
