Big business is calling for Congress to make it easier?

Big business is calling for Congress to make it easier for foreign workers to take American jobs. The President of the
National Foreign Trade Council, who represents large companies
like Microsoft and Boeing, says the United States will risk its
global competitive edge unless it lifts its visa restrictions
for foreign workers.

Will this demand by big business could put America’s middle class and our
national security at risk or boost our competive edge ?

Do you approne or disaprove of big business making our governments policys ?

Answer:
I think it is criminal of our politicians to reorganize our trade protections and country to maximize the profits of the top 2% at the expense of the rest of the citizens.

We may need some more h1b visas, but not as the new bill suggests, an unlimited number so long as they graduate from US schools, on TOP of a 115,000 to 180,000 h1b visas per year quota.

You know what? If we do away with the remittances that illegal immigrants make, that right there would be a huge benefit to our balance of trade.

As for our 'competitive advantage', I'd rather retain our middle class than have pride of knowing I'm poor in a 'competitive' country.

PS - Greenspan said this was an 'anti inflationary measure' to have unlimited skilled visas. In other words, he wants to do to middle class wages what has already been done to blue collar wages by illegal immigration.
big business is only out for them self's. they are the ones who are panicking, not the middle class. i think they, like the churches should keep their damn nose out of govt business.
big business will bring in highly educated and motivated foreigners to work much cheaper than white educated workers. I have a friend that is a Hindu Phd biologist and works for 30 k a year.... when his counterpart white scientists make 60 to100k
Immigrants have historically driven our industrial progress (they even invented "the bomb"). I whole-heartedly approve of letting in all those who want the American Dream.
I call it BLACKMAIL! They are already stealing our jobs and outsourcing the better paying ones! Somebody needs to grow some Big, Ugly, Hairy ones...and tell them NO, next month at the "Hold Their Feet To The Fire March"! Nobody is against Legal Immigration done the right way, Americans and Legal Immigrants oppose Illegal Immigration!
Ironic that Boeing wants to import more foreign workers due to "employee shortages".
Right after 9/11, Boeing LAID OFF 30,000 employees.
Pre-9/11, Boeing had 199,000 employees; they now have 154,100.
These are the facts, (from a former Boeing designer):
Boeing's wages for engineers are WAY below market.
(I was recruited by another engineering firm after 11 years at Boeing. I more than doubled my salary by leaving Boeing.)
Many engineers don't want to work at Boeing, because Boeing has off-loaded much of the design work that used to be done at Boeing. Engineers at Boeing have become nothing more than glorified project managers.
On top of that, with it's history of regularly slashing jobs, many potential employees don't want that kind of career uncertainty.
Companies like Boeing create their own problems, then act as if these types of challenges are beyond their control.
It's nothing more than another way to cut costs.
I dont approve of big business making our policies but I think they have every right to voice opinions on the subject. Having said that, it would be nice if we (Americans) could be assured that our politicians could not be bribed to vote in favor of big business. The reality is that too many of our elected officials are for sale to the highest bidder.
I believe you are taking the wrong approach towards this issue. First of all, they are not "American" jobs. They are done inside American territory, with American wages, but who said there are enough Americans to fill in for those positions? Many homeless people are such thing by choice, and several of them refuse to work. We have jobs even to throw away in this country, while in other parts of the world such as India, China, and Latin America jobs are VERY scarce and only available to young people. If we have "spare" jobs that no one wants or is willing to do, then why not give the opportunity to someone else who needs it? After all, America has always been the land of opportunity.
Michael we have no industry left you fool .
Big business should pay a hefty job loss tax. If that was the case you would not see them having trouble finding Americans to do the job. Business always finds the cost effective way, if the tax is too high they will resort to hiring Americans.
