Of course this should be changed. It is ridiculous to grant citizenship to a child born on U.S. soil if the child is born from someone who is not a U.S. citizen. It makes no sense, it causes more illegal immigration and it hurts children because they are used as pawns by their parents to gain access to our great nation.
We simply can not grant U.S. citizenship to every person on the Earth that wants to be here. People need to get in line and go through the legal process if they want the opportunity to come to, prosper in, and become a member of this great nation.

We just need to repeal the 14th Amendment. It was only supposed to be used to allow the children of slaves who were born in America to automatically become citizens, and Mexicans are taking advantage of it. And to cd, the problem with it is illegals come here to have their kids so the liberals won't deport the parents since it would break up their poor family. I guess we shouldn't send people to prison, since that also breaks up families.
we need to change the bill, but we shouldn't discriminate who should become citizens.moslems arabs, etc...I am jewish...and i do not discriminate against muslim babies...this is what breeds hatred in the first place...i don't understand how the new bill is going to work...allowing everyone who is illegal amnesty if they go back home have $5 grand when most are poor. the bill is for the upper class anyways...the bill separates families...a baby who is born here grows up does not know of their home country, so they cannot go back...and if their parent has to return, why separate them? it is ludicrous.amnesty...f the z-thing.

Did you know that even though the baby born on American soil automatically becomes American citizen, its parents still have to wait until their child turns 18 years of age before they can apply for Permanent Residency through a family member (their child in this case)? And no, United States are not the only country that allows this.
they are citizens only if their parents give allegiance to their new country, and not to their old one. and i don't see the parents doing that.
