If I become a US citizen, and have dual nationality, will that entitle my American husband to a UK passport?
Answer:
no.. he has to live in Uk for 3 years before get a passport
First UK and the USA are totally different countries, with different immigration laws, and second i think you louse your UK citizen paper when you become USA Citizen, and your husband have to become a UK citizen to have a pas port.
If you become an american Citizen, you will have to surrender your ties to the UK. Meaning the Us does not regognize dual citizenship. My husband is a naturalized citizen and I know that he had to give up his Honduran citizen ship. The only way for you husband to get a Uk passport is for you both to live in the UK ,and have him become a British royal subject. good luck.
Actually UK allows Dual Citizenship. If you get US citizenship and you want to keep your UK citizenship, you can do that. You get two passports - one from each country. Then whenever you would need to travel, you'd need to carry both of them. My suggestion is it would be nice to check in with the Immigration offices in both countries so you can understand about traveling with two passports.
There are countries that do not accept Dual Citizenship in which case you loose your citizenship in the country of birth. As for your husband, he would get residency in UK, but I am not sure how long it would take to get the citizenship and then apply for the passport. Though I think it might be about 3 - 5 yrs.
I am a dual citizen myself. US/Malaysia. If you check the Internet..US acknowledges dual citizenship and so is ok. The more you should concern about is whether on the UK side...would they accept a two-way citizenship as well? Try checking out UK immigration and citizenship laws on the Internet there.
