Get a job and then get a work visa. Apply to an American university and then get a student visa. After you've been here a while, contact INS and find out what you need to do to become a permanent resident and/or a US citizen.

I'm assuming you mean legally, but the obvious illegal method is just to throw a few suitcases in your car and tell the customs officer that you are going to take an extensive tour of the US for a vacation. Start a small business and you're home free.
Simply pack up your stuff and move in. It's worked rather well so far for the 20 Million Illegals we currently have from our Southern Border. And If you hurry you might just get here and get Amnesty. That's what they wanna give the 20 Million Illegals allready here.
Visit the United States Immigration website where you will get all the information you need.

Canadians can stay for up to six months in the US without a visa, but they're not permitted to work.

If you want to live in the US, you can consider a TN visa, which is a special sort of professional visa for Canadians and Mexicans who work in certain professions. There's also the H1B visas, but those are very limited in number. Both require an employer to sponsor them, but the time spend living in the US can be used towards permanent residency.

There's also the option of a student visa, but that time may not be able to be used for permanent residency. It's also very expensive for most people.
