I'm on F-1 student visa in the US. Is there a risk to take a semester off while I'm in the asylum process?

The thing I'm worried about is that I'll be out of status and thus illegal if I don't continue my studies, but on the other hand an asylee who is in the process of getting asylum CAN stay in the US legally. So thats my dilemma. Its too expensive to pay my lawyer and the tuition at the same time.

Answer:
if you can't afford to pay your lawyer, don't waste your time getting any right answers here. yours is very specific situation and requires professional advice.
