The supermarket manager has the right to hire whomever he feels will do the best job, especially if that person is legal to work in the USA. A 35-year-old is more likely to stay with the job a lot longer than would a teenager.

I don't see the problem here as long as he is legal to work in this country. I have the utmost respect for anybody who works, no matter how meaningless the jobs seem to some of us. I personally wouldn't work as a bag boy..but I congratulate the man for working instead of being on welfare.
Are you racist? Anybody who is anybody needs a job to make money no matter what they are doing. If you are one of these teenagers then maybe you should pay more mind to your studies then to where you are going to work. I mean get real, no real teenager holding a temporary summer job is paying rent or is supporting a family.

I have never seen a Mexican bay boy, even if I did I wouldn't think anything of it. We have a 76 year old bag boy at our local grocery store, do you want me to tell him that a teenager needs this job? I think not, a job is a job. Whom ever showed the initiative to go and seek the job deserves it more. I guess the Mexican man needed it more.

If he is in this country legally, there is nothing wrong with him working as a sacker. What is not being taken into account is that store management is taking advantage of his impoverished state and working him at part time teenager wages, probably on party time status so he does not receive full time benefits like a retirement plan, health and disability insurance, etc. and because he is on part time status, he can be laid off or dismissed without cause. Even if the union is active in the store, he receives no union benefits or representation in the event of a dispute with his employer. I will not assume that his man is an illegal immigrant, but since the topic has been broached, I will continue.
It is not a crime or a sin to want to provide for your family and have a job that pays a livable wage. The crime is in the employers who hire the immigrant labor at substandard wages which is feeding the exodus from South America. Mexico is not the only country involved.

Teeners think it's perfectly OK to 1. show up late for work, 2. don't show up at all, 3. spend more time getting out of doing any work at all than time spent actually doing what they were hired to do. In addition, they complain, spend too much time talking to co-workers - especially those of the opposite sex, spend too much time in the restrooms, come back late from lunch---- and, they all have a flip mouth.
No problems like these with a 35 year-old person.
If he is legal then it is discrimination. What family is the teenager feeding? I am against illegals, but be careful on the racist overtones.
