Green Card Holders Abroad for more than 1 year?
Answer:
The "new passport" is a dead give-away that you've been gone too long. Most nations won't let you in unless you have at least 6 months remaining on the one in your possession when you leave the United States.
Your Green Card is no longer any good. You will not be allowed in. You are not an immigrant. You must start the entire immigration process over from start.
two words i got for you "don't lie"
you think DHS don't keep records every time you enter USA through the US Customs line at the Airport!
If you apply for a re-entry permit you will have no problem entering the US
File for a reentry permit if you are going to be gone over 6 months. If you really don't intend on living in the U.S., give up the green card. You realllly need to apply for a reentry permit while you are in the U.S. to help preserve Your permanent resident status. Look up form I-131 on www.uscis.gov. The immigration officer may think you have already abandoned your green card when you try to enter.
