How come when an American citizen marries a non-American,people always assume it's a green-card deal ?

Because they dont know how long,expensive and difficult the process can be!! Even if you marry an american citizen you dont automatically get a greencard!Maybe it was easy back in the day but not now. You gotta go through fiance visas, interviews,medical exams,lots of forms and they wanna see proofs that the marriage was entered in good faith like for example pictures, joint bank accounts, emails, bills in both names,spouse beneficiary of life insurance, ect.
Its not as easy as people think!!
ALWAYS? I think you should be careful when you use terms like "always" and "never." Typically you will be wrong when you use an absolute.

Because it does not happen in the US as it does in other parts of the world. It is an oddity here, therefore the curiosity and the questions.
Because that is usually just what it is for, a green card to stay in the states without being deported. They'll marry a 80 year old just to get that green card.
Why do YOU assume that you know what ALL other people are thinking? I've never known anyone who married a foreigner to help them get a green card. The ones I know married for love, so I'd never assume that it was a "green card deal".

I don't. Per governement reports, one out of five immigration fraud cases proven is a marriage fraud case, though. And I don't know if you saw that in the UK and Wales the marriage rate turned out to be the lowest NUMBER (not percentage) since the 1800s, despite higher population, once you factored out immigration marriages.
The abuse of the process does make people skeptical, but I have heard NOONE suggesting that Americans shouldn't be able to bring spouses home.
I only assume a marriage is for immigration if the facts make that pretty apparent. (I've been writing to this guy on the internet for weeks now, and we've fallen in love and want to get married and have him come to live with me in the US. How will we prove to immigration that our love is for real? - or something.)
I work in Immigration Law and 99.9% of the time it is a scam, regardless if the U.S. Cittizen is truly in love, its their future spouse who has hidden agendas.
Sorry I just call it like I see it.
There is a certain element of people that believe this is the case but not everyone so therefore not ALWAYS.
I just ignore that ignorant element that believes a marriage to a USC is only for the green card. Makes me laugh that this certain element believes there is no country better than or equal to the US when it comes to freedom and living standards. That is arrogance at its ultimate and not worth the effort worrying about what they think.

I do not think that people ALWAYS assume that it is a green card deal. In my experience, some people thought that I was marrying this guy to get the green card ( his brother). But other's knew that I love him and that we married for love.
So it depends.
It's called ignorance. Even if they are American, like Chicanos [Mexicans born here] they'll assume. It's stupidity. Many people just talk to talk.
