What is good about ENGLAND?????

i have lived in england all my life, 51 years, it used to be a great country but now i cant find any thing great about it now,if you think its still a great country please tell what is good and why

Answer:
em! , let me think ,
still thinking
no sorry , like you it's gone to the dog's
...crossing the border into that fine country..Scotland!
well nice rainy weather, great shi**y food, not allowed to own a gun.

well i like the pub and rager beer.
Its a great country to somebody from pakistan!
Born and bred here 55years same mind as yourself.
I can't say anything good about England. Small minded people, rude, poorly-educated and INCREDIBLY fat.

Oh, wait a second, I left it 26 years ago. Now THAT was good.
They don't rule the world anymore.
The NHS

Democracy and Free speech

Stable economy

Good lifestyle
Universal health care.
Its a sinking ship...get out while you still can.
things are only going to get worse.
It no longer controls the States! Woohoo! To tell you the truth, I'm increasingly disillusioned with my own home country. However, in my opinion, the U.S. is still the least worst place to live. It is fairly easy to just live your life & stay below radar as long as you don't expect anything from the government & you give up your tribute to the Treasury every year. England creeps me out, honestly. I talked to a lady that said some social worker comes to visit you regularly if you have young children in the house. That is nuts - a complete invasion of privacy. In the U.S., you don't even have to let a social worker in without a warrant & no one with half a brain would (especially not me).
Coleman's English Mustard BJAYSUS that stuff blows away the cobwebs.

Despite what you think, you do still have a very good football team, and your football league is as good as any in the world.

A largely unarmed police force (we in Scotland share that blessing; we're not so lucky with the football).

There's a pub in Tanworth-In-Arden that I really like.

Wiltshire (once you're off the M4 and beyond Swindon, obviously).

Warwickshire on a misty morning. Gives me the collywobbles every time.

Some mad picts who drew massive pictures on chalk hillsides. Well done them. Go the mad picts.

I could go on, but I'm trying to get some work done...

PS I agree with the people who mentioned democracy, the NHS, and the like - there's not exactly an English monopoly on those, but they are admirable characteristics nevertheless
Democracy and stable economy.
The rich history and landmarks. I'm such a history buff and there is really nothing over here in Seattle that lets you experience that kind of history. The oldest stuff over here is maybe from the late 1800's. I think British people are very well reserved and many (not all) seem to have a rational head on their shoulders.
the NHS. everyone slags it off about it being understaffed, long waiting times etc. but when I got really ill a month ago they were brilliant.
If you all hate it so much, why don't you clear off and leave it to those of us who do ??? There is nothing wrong with England that a decent Government wouldn't put right...I too was born and bred here, parents and their parents too...It makes me cross when people winge about the country but won't get off their backsides and do something about it !!!
its not the USA. my countries filled with pestilence pouring in from the south and from the surrounding islands they don't' care if they are rapists murderers or drug dealers because its just "against human rights" to not want scum in our country. yay for civil rights being given to the waste of society and taken from decent people.
I cant think of much, the NHS,nice countryside ermm thats about it
I had a friend who thought the same thing so he uped and moved his family to spain, now everytime he's here he complains about how much better England is.

Just goes to show you don't notice the good things till they're gone!
The weather, the people, the jumble sales, the BBC, the shops, the wild life, the language, being part of Great Britian and the United Kingdom, the many different cultures, the safety plugs..

And of course the optimism many of the English have, sorry you seem to have lost some of yours.
thats because you have lived there all your life and are used to it.
the fact that it neighbours scotlands makes it pretty priviliged ;)
Hi

Sorry to hear you are so disillusioned.

Mountains in spring, beaches in winter, fresh air in the countryside, trees, country pubs, beautiful scenery etc etc.

When you've stood on the tops of mountains, admired the views and felt the exhilaration from the chill of the wind while being at total piece with the world but still know that within two hours you can be in a warm pub with food, drink and memories you realise that this country is still great.

I really believe England and the rest of the UK is as beautiful as anywhere in the world and it is here on our doorstep.

Happy ranting though!!!!

Dean
its not somalia.
While I have only visited your beautiful country ,I loved it. The country side, the people and the fact that most of you love animals ..The history of everything, I am from Arizona in the US and my husband and I were made to feel welcome every where we traveled. But like our country you are going thru a very painful transition. We are being smothered by millions of illegal aliens and you have immigration problems of your own.You have my total understanding of your feelings..
the good thing about England is,it's not in Australia.cheers mate :)
Don't believe the media hype who continually drag our good name through the mud. England is whatever you make it. You should move out of and stay away from the big cities, London especially, where I live at the moment. As for what is good about England: Long history, pies, bags of culture, free NHS, The Lake District, Cornwall, Yorkshire Dales, freedom of speech, sense of humour, sausages . . . need I say more?
The Queen! God Bless the Queen!!
The freedom to breathe other peoples car exhaust fumes through the windows of your soon- to- be- non-smoking pub.

Laws that do not require proof of intent to commit a crime.

Three major political parties that all say the same thing.

Any other political party that attempts to challenge the big three on contentious issues being prevented from doing so by the law of a thousand 'isms' (sexism, racism, antidisestablishmentarianism, anti-McDonaldsism, anti dogpoo on the pavementism, anti ism ism, et al)

Newspapers with no news.

Eighteen thousand useless celebrities, and the worship thereof.

A working-class sport (football) that is beyond the means of the working class to attend.

A country that has invented the best fast food-sausages, meat pies, fish and chips, rapidly adopting American fast food such as fake hamburgers.

The replacement of good British bitter with tasteless and over-marketed synthetic (i.e FAKE) so-called Continental lagers.

Turkey twizzlers. And idiot parents who shove junk food through school fences in defiance of the knowledgeable. Why bother with school?
The people.
i am an american who was born in england. yes, england is still a great and mighty nation. as with america, you do have some issues with immigration, however.
