Questions for a Mexican immigrant?
For my SOC class tomorrow, we are having a guest speaker. He is an immigrant from Mexico....the syllabus doesn't specify if he came here legally or not...
It is going to be an open Q&A...
What are some questions that you would ask?
Answer:
Don't be mean to him now babe.
Cherokee Rose your ignorance spills out of your ears, dang! It takes three years of living here to get your PERMANENT RESIDENCE, and an extra five years to become a citizen. Therefore, this is a process taking around 8 years, so it's impossible to accomplish your limit of 3 years living here.
Ask him "How long did it take for you to get your citizenship?"
When he tells you, it will answer two questions:
1) how long it takes to get the citizenship
2) that he is/isn't a legal citizen
Not being a citizen doesn't necessarily mean he is an illegal immigrant, but if he is in business and has been here for many years (3 or more) he should be a citizen.
Other questions:
"When you came to the USA, did you enter legally?"
"How did you get the money to start your own business?"
"Have you ever relied on Federal assistance?"
"Do you send money OUT of the USA, to family in your homeland?"
"Do you employ illegal immigrants in your business?"
Ask for his green card and if he doesn't have it call immigration.
Ask him if he has 20 different ids and which one is he today
Are you legal??
Does he cater to just the hispanic population or does his business consider the other groups of people here?
Does he do his business in English or Spanish or both?
Does he hire anyone other than hispanics to work in his business?
Does he offer health insurance for his employees?
How much does he pay?
Does he spend more or less time at work than he thought he would before he opened his business?
Does he do SS# checks, background checks etc on new employees or does he just take their word?
With the crackdown on employers hiring illegals, does that put him in an awkward position, or under more scrutiny than other employers?
What does he do if he gets information claiming an employee is using another SS#?
Does he pay by check or under the table?
Does he take foreign currency as payment?
