How do I go about replacing my green card, that was lost years ago.?
Answer:
Regardless of how long the card has been expired or lost, you would still go through the same processes of replacing the card, which would be to file the form I-90.. The I-90 is available from the USCIS website at http://www.uscis.gov . You can download it and send it in, or your can e-file it. More than likely you did not receive a card that was to be renewed for ten years, and everyday I get calls from residents who have had a card for several years and it doesn't even have an epxiration date... Either way, you should be fine. When you file the application, file under the reason that you have lost the card... When it asks you for information such as your alien number, if you do not know it, you will need to answer NA. Leaving spaces blank on a USCIS form is a bad decision because they will send it back thinking that you have simply left the question out.
After you file the I-90 you will be contacted through mail for an appointment to have your biometrics completed, which is your fingerprints, photo, and signature. After the appointment the personnel at the center will tell you the next steps. It can take up to 6 months however, the process is not at all short. Youll need to read the instructions carefully & include all information asked of you, along with the filing fees which will be a total $260.00. The form/website will tell you where to send it, but if you have questions, feel free to call USCIS' National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283
