I'd gladly pay a tax when I visit. I love travelling to Canada. But, I always return home after a few days.
That is up to Canada. I doubt it will happen. The Canadians like US $$$. They have been our allies longer than most other countries so I doubt it is likely to happen.

This question makes no sense. I'm pretty sure there aren't millions of Americans sneaking over the Canadian border illegally.
Not all americans are like that, just like all people from Mexico are not bad. The percentage of bad people is far less than the good people, but people seem to focus on the bad. It is very sad. Just like I hear that people from eastern Canada are racist and ill-tempered so I really don't want to go there. I really don't think that everyone in eastern Canada is that way. I think we just need to accept people as they are and lose the preconcieved ideas then deal with the illegal immigration on a more rational level.
Violence and greed are universal world wide. Actually only certain portions of Americans are prone to violence although it's not PC to talk about that. I don't see alot of them in Canada when I go there. I'll stop going if you want me to. Your loss. BTW, an awful lot of Canadians come here to race mx especially in the fall and I think they are treated very well here.

You say that Americans tend to spread violence. Well the True blue Americans are rather peaceful people. Just like the True blue Canadians are rather peaceful I have been to Canada several times in the past 15 years. I have been to Vancouver and to Victoria on the island of Vancouver. I have been to Montreal and to Quebec City I was in Nova Scotia (halifax) and riding through the island there. I did not like Toronto so much as it reminded me of New York city. (so many (non-canadians) living there. they may have been given Canadian citizenship but their criminal and violent actions say that they are not truly Canadians in character. There were so many foreingers living there that I could not get a chance to experience Canadian culture like I saw in the other ciies of Canada that I had previously visited.
Toronto was almost as bad as New York. Here in New York there is so much crime and violence and entire neighborhoods are filled with people who will never be and act like true blue americans no matter how many papers claiming citizenship that they show. Those are the people who tend to spread violence.
There was a program on Tv one time that said that Canada was about almost 25-30 years behind the USa in demographic (population) change and along with it all the problems of massive third world immigration. So if your coutry is not careful one day there will be a person from Australia or New Zealand saying that Canadians should be kept out of those places because they tend to spread violence and greed whereever they go.
I think that Canada can be more careful about letting people in to Canada who may turn violent. Yes it is becomming a big problem for Canada.
I agree that trouble and violence tend to come from across the border from Usa into Canada but it generally is not done by Americans who are of a longtime ancestral background.
I once in 1982 had a friend who was from Ecuador living here and I knew the family quite well and they had a relative come for a visit from Ecuador and then he wanted to go and visit his cousin who was an immigrant from Ecuador living in Toronto. I took him down to the Canadian consulate office here in New York City to help translate as he could not speak English. He told the lady in the consulate office that he wanted to get a residency permit and when she said there was a two year waiting list he asked for an emergency entrance visa to Canada because his daughter needed a medical operation and she became upset (and justly so) because she told him that he was a foreign freeloader who wanted to go to Canada and abuse the free medical treatment available to Canadians who must pay taxes for their good health car system.
Well she sent us upstairs and I had a chance to personally meet the Consul General of Canada at that time. He spoke English French and Spanish. He told the man that he would let him go to Canada and we should come back in 5 days to pick up his Ecuadorean passport. He was given permission to go toToronto to visit his cousin and he was only there for three days when the Canadian authorities deported him back to the US where he remained in New York city as an illegal alien for many years after that. (1982 -1996 as an illegal alien)
The consul general of Canada said to me at that time that he had to be careful because the USA had no control of who came into the USA and that many illegal foreigners in the USA were trying to sneak into Canada at that time.
But sad to say that many years later Canada has very lax immigration laws and so many foreigners are entering your country and causing many problems in your country.
I was in Quebec city and I was surprised to see the huge number of Latin american immigrants from Peru and other countries. I am an American who learned to speak Spanish fluently and one day in Quebec city sitting on a bench over looking the river I heard three Peruvians saying how they had only come to Canada to be able to get Canadian dollars and for the free health care. They were eating lunch and smoking cigarettes and the through their garbage on the ground by the bench afterwards. So I can see that the same problems that are worse here in the USA are surely happening now in Canada although maybe not as bad yet simply because there are now 300,000,000 million people living in USA and there are about probobly 30 or maybe 40 millin people living in Canada which has a landmass larger than the United States and also 100 million people living in america now are foreign born. and their children are just first generation residents here.
So I think your country should try to do something to stem the tide of violent people who are entering Canada from the USa but you should realize that most of those people are not "real" Americans. They may have a paper saying that they became "american citizens" but they are still the same people that they were from their own country of origin. People who have brought violent customs and corrupt behavior with them from their own coutries.
Also in 2005 Mexico Canada and USA signed the "SPP" which is the Security and prosperity partnership zone which means that by 2010 the three leaders Bush and the Mexican Pres.and the Canadian Prime Minister want to do away with the borders between the three countries and to promote free movement and residencies for all people in those three countries and just as the countries in Europe lost their money. (no more Spanish Peseta or German Mark or Italian Lira or French franc) well there will be no more US dollar or Canadian dollar or Mexican peso. There will be a new currency called "The Amero" for Canada USA and Mexico.

So I don't think there will be a wall being built by Canada anytime soon just as the USA is not building a wall between USA and Mexicoeven though the vast majority of American voters demanded of our politicians that a wall be built to protect our southern border between USA and Mecxico.
So get ready for an increased spread of violence and corruption to come to Canada in the future.

Should Canadians be kept out of America? NO! My husband was Canadian and had to be sponsored by an American when he came to this country. That person was responsible for him if he got in trouble, no welfare, no handouts and no English. Tell that to your illegal Mexicans. That was back in the days people respected authority and had pride.
I think trade should be reduced a little, but there should be NO immigration!

So those Americans who moved in a few blocks from me ten years ago who set up a church, take in foster children, host karaoke nights, bible studies and have exceptional children are spreading violence and greed?
I say they're well deserved of their dual citizenship.. if they have one. I never asked.
By all means keep Americans out of Canada! Keep our troops out in the event you're country is ever invaded, keep our technology out, keep our dollars out, keep our tourists out and keep our missiles from protecting your sorry butt even as you read this. Disassociate your country from any and everything American, tear up all treaties between the two countries, build a wall so high you can't see your southern sky, and once your economy is as bad as Mexico's, we'll build another wall parallel to yours to keep you out.
