Why was the ban lifted?
Answer:
If this isn't a move to insanity I don't know what is. One more piece of proof to their move to NAU. Money, money, money. I know where I live it is insanity with the trucks anyway. I don't blame them...they have a job to do but it really makes traffic tough. You can't see signs and it doesn't help that people drive like nut jobs anyway. Now add all these trucks? Trucks that have drivers that probably don't have a clue on snow driving etc. Unsafe trucks to boot. I have always had deep respect for truckers. They not only do their jobs but so many are extra eyes and ears and a helping hand for the rest of us. I know they are screened to the hilt and held to top standards. Once again.....our roadways will be bombarded by people we know nothing about. Not driving with the same restrictions and testing, and standards that ours have to do. If they are anything like the regular illegal drivers.....god help us. It will be a demolition derby out there. I wonder if they'll dump their rig and run away like the drivers do? Not to mention a direct route for more illegals and drugs. Once again the American citizen is put at risk for sub standards for the sake of a buck.
Another freakin' double standard! Did you also know that American trucks are NOT allowed to go into mexico? Every question you asked after your main question are also good questions. If I could come up with a reply that could answer all of them I would say the following: The US Gooberment allowed this to happen because they don't give a rat's *** what happens to this country. Every morning, as these treasonous politicians open their eyes as they wake up, the first thing that enters their wee little minds is "How can we screw 'em today?"
Rice and Bush are in Canada with a summit on SPP. Diane Feinstein (who I still like despite voting against her for voting yes on the Senate bill) is calling for an investigation.
And well she might. Security (which she cares about) and national sovereignity (which I'm not sure she thinks is imperiled) aside, California has some of the major ports in our country. They just voted in radiation screeners and plans to screen every container coming into the ports. Now, with the plan to ship to foreign ports and truck it up, they plan to give 'fast passes' and 'fast pass' lanes through the border for these 100 Mexican 'trusted trading partners.' California would be cut out entirely and there would be a total end run around this very expensive security we are putting in.
Only last month a 'trusted trading partner' truck was found smuggling (they were then subject to spot checks) so I can't imagine why they think it is ok to do this. I think Bush is trying to beat the clock.
He has also suggested letting countries into the visa waiver program 'regardless' of their 'visa failure' rate (a rate at which visas to a country are turned down for reasons such as overstay or even terrorism, although Homeland Security would have to approve the waiver.) The bill has been introduced. All of this would consolidate more approvals Congress should have into the Executive Branch and we have seen already what a good idea that isn't, with the trade agreements.
