sorta. i think they should definitely have to pay taxes, but i don't think they should be FORCED to join the army. that's just like slavery.
No way would i want that. I am currently in the army and would not want someone who did not volunteer to be there standing next to me in iraq/afghanistan or anywhere there is combat. Kick them out, no matter where they are from, let them come back the right way, learn english, pay their taxes and do it legally.

France's version is called the foreign legion... when your duty is complete, you have French citizenship (though this is more for people trying to 'disappear' historically)
Tell them to join or be deported. If they survive, they'll be made citizens. Just like the prisoners were during the Civil War. If they fought and survived, they were pardoned. Easy as that.

I do not particularly want someone who cannot speak English nor obey U.S. law to be in the uniform of MY country, standing beside or anywhere near ME, especially with a weapon in his hand.
I have no problem, however, with putting them to work fixing highways, picking up litter, demolishing condemned buildings, etc. WHILE LEARNING ENGLISH.

No there is the language barrier and the time it would take to train them to consider. If they are here illegally then they will just refuse to sign up (and who would know because they are undocumented) and even if they did come forward with who do their loyalties lie?

I think it is better, since we are supporting them anyway, to put them into work programs where they build and dig and do the kind of work Americans won't do. Yes, pick fruit etc. After doing this for whatever a period seems right, they can get in line and become citizens. This approach would be for the ones caught here illegally. Seems fair. However, what you are suggesting is called "forced subscription." We fought the War of 1812 over that when the British were doing it to our sailors. Also, we'd end up with armed forces who have nothing for which to fight..no mission.
If the roles were reversed, and you were caught entering Mexico and subscribed into their army, how well would you fight for Mexico.
