If my mom was born in a different country can I get citizenship of that country?

And does she have to be alive?

Answer:
It would depend on that countries laws, rules and regulations concerning citizenship. Call their immigration or an embassy.
Yes you can get that citizenship... and... I guess she would have to be alive... but ask!
It depends on the country she was born (rules and regulations)

If you were more specific on your question, your answer could have been more accurate.
It depends on which country - some countries only consider you eligible for citizenship if your father was a citizen. Try contacting the consulate or embassy for the country you're wanting info about.
citizenship requirements are different for all countries, but I can relate a true fact for Finland and Canada...
My wife is Finnish-born. My boys can become Finnish Citizens,,,and still keep their Canadian Citizenship also...being dual citizens...BUT....since they are under 25, they must be available to go into the army over there....(still a draft). SO...be careful..and look into it completely.
