What gives local county govt. the authority to pass laws regarding immigration?

Immigration is a Federal issue. My county in South Carolina should not be worried about controlling the border between Mexico and the U.S!

Answer:
It is coming to the point that states and counties have to pass laws in order to protect the citizens of their towns, counties and states. You should be proud SC has one of the few Senators with a backbone enough to stand up for the people on this issue. Wish every state were so lucky.
Actually, if you read the constitution and documents at that time it said the states had the power until a certain time in the 1800s when the federal goverment could RESTRICT immigration beyond what the states want.

We are so far down the federal road I don't really see that being adhered to, but it seems to me that under the 10th amendment and historical interpretation, the states have the right to be MORE restrictive, just not less.
The constitution

Why not ? someone had better start to enforce immigration, or is it already too late.
the tenth amendment
why shouldn't they, these illegals are spreading into the eastern states too!! and that tells you right there that there are way too many in this country! every state, local gov., city, town, whatever should be worried and be passing laws against illegals themselves, ones who hire or rent to them etc. this is a national problem not pertaining to just the southwest!
Someone has got to do it... our Government is doing a crappy job
Because the FEDERALS are not doing their job to stop this!

Once they stop sending OUR border control agents OVER TO IRAQ, and start hiring more to stop the flow of illegal aliens and stop prosecuting INNOCENT border agents...then we will talk about the Feds doing their jobs.
In most States, local law enforcement supports federal laws. BUT... suddenly, a growing group of people have decided that state & local law enforcement should shy away from enforcing our federal laws & do everything to protect those that violate these laws. I find it strange that they are very willing to support federal laws on controlled substances & work with the federal government, but resist enforcing immigration laws.
Local communities are allowed to pass laws to protect themselves, so long as they do not violate the constitution or civil rights of people. Federal laws against hiring illegals already exist but the elitest of our society have grown fat on the exploitation of illegals & profits made from lowering the wages of their fellow Americans while ignoring laws against their actions.
Well somebody had better step up to the plate, our fed gov is certainly not doing the job of enforcing our immigration laws. I am all in favor of tougher laws but they need to enforce the ones we have before enacting new laws full of loop holes to benefit the illegals in this country,it's just another slap in the face to the American public.
On the contrary, it's the worry of every state and government even towns and villages. If they get their way there's not going to be any stopping them.
What do you really know about federalism? Read the 10th Amendment sometime. While your county has no control over the border it does control 99% of what happens with its jurisdiction.
