What's the point of having HSMP (Highly Skilled Migration Plan) in the UK?

Even if migrants does not fit the criteria, they can still come in the UK, not work and claim benefits (very callous of the government to allow that). I believe the MAIN problem on immigration which makes a lot of Brits angry and disillusioned is NOT towards the immigrants that came over through the proper channels to work for a living (contributing to the economy), BUT the ones that come over only to claim benefits the government so freely handed out especially thru the EU (draining the economy).

Is there any solution to this and is anyone doing anything about it? I'm curious. Thanks.

Answer:
Where is your evidence that immigrants are claiming benefits? In general, people are only allowed to enter the country on condition that they do not claim public support. Some people here working, EU citizens, are allowed to get "top-up" benefits like housing benefit and tax credits, and of course all immigrants who eventually get settled status then have the same rights as other UK citizens.

The only major exception are people given refugee status, who may not be in a position to support themselves immediately. They can claim JSA on the same basis - "actively seeking work" - as UK citizens, even though they may not have been in the country a long time. However, the vast majority of refugees want to work as soon as possible. While they are waiting for a decision, they are not allowed to work, and have to exist on very meagre benefits from NASS, part of the Home Office.

Hope this helps.
I feel that NO ONE should be allowed to enter the UK anymore. To work, to claim benefits, nothing. The UK is over crowded, and the British are the minority. I also feel that anybody not British should be sent back to where they originally come from. Anybody doing anything about it? The Government of course....lol.
I think it is time to stop this immigration.
Things are coming to a head.
I read an article where Gordon Brown said that immigrant workers would not be allowed to take jobs that could be filled by the indigenous population.
Well I have news for him,
Last week my son rang a prominent civil engineering company in Devon, looking for a job, and was told "we are not taking on any British workers"
All the positions are being filled by Polish workers, as they work for little more than minimum wages.
AS THERE IS MAJOR BLACK HOLE IN THE ECONOMY GOVERNMENT DOES NEED SOME MONEY TO COVER IT THROUGH THE TAXES. NOW ALL THE PEOPLE THOSE ARE CLAIMING BENEFITS AND DOING NOTHING HAS TO BE LOOKED AFTER BY SOME ONE. OR SOME ONE HAVE TO BEAR THEIR EXPENCES. I NO IT IS NOT FAIR ON OTHERS BUT GOVERNMENT CANT PAY FROM THEIR POCKET. IT HAS TO COME OUT FROM TAX.

SO HSMP ALLOWS OTHER PEOPLE TO COME OVER PAY TAX. AND PEOPLE ON HSMP VISA CAN NOT CLAIM BENEFITS UP TO A CERTAIN TIME. ONCE YOUR STATUS CHANGES TO ILR AFTER CERTAIN TIMES THEN YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME RIGHT AS BRITS DO HAVE. AND THEN YOU MAY HAVE SOME OCCASION IN YOU LIFE THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO CLAIM BENEFITS AS WELL. SO ON THAT TIME SOME ONE ELSE WILL PAY FROM HIS POCKET FOR YOU.

THAT IS HOW IT WORKS. IT IS CIRCLE AND WE ALL ARE PART OF IT. WE CANT RUN AWAY FROM THE TRUTH.

MANY THANX. KINDLY RATE MY ANSWER IF IT HELPS.
If you can solve your immigration problems, please let us know. We have so many illegal immigrants in the US now.
I have just heard from a close friend that the government are bringing another scheme which will take over from HSMP

its called the HSTP also known as Highly skilled terrorist plan.

We must stop arranged marriage spouses coming here by right.... they also should take us out of Europe thus closing the borders to so many people that come... claim. drain and go home..
Nothing wrong with bringing the right people into this country, but unfortunately for us, for every 1 right person that comes in, there are 10 unsuitable people following him. Yes the British are disillusioned with the way this government has allowed this to carry on, and who can blame them, all the average person can see is racial unrest, gangs roaming the streets, knife;s becoming an every day accessory, and the kids not being afraid to use them. the country is being taken over by migrants and a sheer lack of consideration for the British that have lived here for generations, and fought to make this country free. And who is asked to pick up the tab for all these immigrants ?No surprise us Brits. Thank you Labour and Tony for your care and consideration for the people you were elected to serve, still Tony not your problem now is it, landed yourself a nice little job in the Middle East with a nice fat salary to go with it.
We have the HSMP because our sputtering, dying education system isn't producing enough skilled workers, so we have to plunder other countries for theirs.

For instance, the only way we can possibly have enough doctors is to offer salaries that are attractive at today's exchange rates in order to encourage doctors who qualified overseas to come here and work for us.
well, for a start it lets me into the UK! Without it, lots of highly trained people couldn't enter your country. I'm coming over at the end of the year, on a spouse visa as my partner is a UK citizen and will be very happy to contribute to your economy with my skills and qualifications!
