Do you have to be a Citizen in order to legalize the status of someone you love?

If someone is a Green Card Holder and he/she loves a person who is undocumented, can they get married and legalize that person's status? If so, how? If not, why?

Answer:
A person SHOULD HAVE TO BE A CITIZEN in order to legalize the status of someone he/she love whom is undocumented.

how to be become a citizen (USA).

a green card holder for at least 5 years before applying for citizenship. -OR-

join the military (this will speed up the citizenship, coz their law now is before you join the military, you should be a citizen. if im not mistaken they will help you process it.

Green holder can petition the undocumented alien but it will take much longer coz the ins will prioritize in processing the petitions of us citizens as well as the military petitioning their loved ones.
