What do I have to do to get a green card?

I have a brother who is a US citizen. He is able to sponsor me but what would that entail? Will I be required to stay in the US for a set period? What specific documentations are necessary and what is the procedure?

I am 49 yrs old and divorced. Serious answers only pls.

Answer:
Have your brother contact the Imigration and Naturalization Service. They have all the anwers.
Sponrsoship of a relative is only doable if the parent in question is father, mother, child. The brother and sister status is not cosidered as close parent and the process will be just equivalent as about 20 years...
The easiest and fastest way for you would be to play the lottery every year. Which doesn't mean you can't start a sponsorship with your brother. Just be aware that when a US citizen sponsors a father, mother or child, it usually takes up to 18 months for the sponsored to get the green card, but if it is any toher relative (brother, sister, aunt, oncle, cousin...), it takes about 20 years.
I know because I want to sponsor my parents and brother and this is what they told me: Your brother is not considered a close relative. (which is understandable, otherwise, everybody gets the green card, if the brother is married and has children, and then the wife sponsors her siblings too, and they sponsor their relatives etc...)
